‘Ko Tee’ hunted after weapons cache discovered

By Sonthanaporn Inchan

Security is being tightened in Bangkok and neighbouring provinces following the discovery this week of a large cache of military weapons in Chachoengsao, purportedly stored in preparation for an attack in the capital.

Deputy national police chief Pol General Srivara Ransibhramanakul ordered tighter security and further searches in the wake of the weapons discovery in Bang Nam Priao district, saying intelligence indicated there were more weapons hidden in Bangkok suburbs and nearby.

At a press conference on Wednesday evening, he linked the weapons cache to an extremist political group led by prominent red shirt Wuttipong “Ko Tee” Kottham-makhun.

Srivara said the weapons found in Bang Nam Priao had been stashed there sometime after April, since farmers preparing their fields for planting that month had seen no sign of the cache.

An initial examination of the weapons indicated they were from the same batch as those used in at least three attacks in 2014 within the jurisdictions of the Metropolitan Police Bureau and Provincial Police Region 1.

Srivara said serial numbers on the RGD 5 explosives found are believed to be in line with those on weapons allegedly found at the site of a 2014 red-shirt rally in Muang Nonthaburi and in a March 18 search of Wuttipong’s business offices in Pathum Thani.

The serial numbers also resemble those on weapons found during a January 15, 2014, protest at the Thai Meteorological Department in Bang Na, others linked to an explosion at a Bang Chan bank on February 21, 2014, and still others linked to an explosion in the capital’s Pratunam area.

Also on Wednesday night, Srivara led 30 soldiers to a house in Nakhon Nayok’s Ongkharak district in search of Wattana Sapwichian, 53, regarded as a “person of interest” regarding the newly discovered weapons.

Homeowner Prayoon Boonsombat, 55, told them Wattana had never lived there. His name had been added to Prayoon’s household registration at the request of a third person because Wattana was seeking treatment for cancer at a nearby medical centre.

Believing that Wattana might instead be living in Pathum Thani’s Nong Sua district, Srivara ordered a search there today (November 30).

I wish the scumbag bar-steward had.

Hunted? Again? Was the hunt postponed like this:

Interrogation postponed of DSI officials in Jomsap case

or did it stall like this:

Cadet’s autopsy stalled

or, maybe it just fizzled, back-fired, and just was a standard "ran-out-of-fuel" kind of a hunt?

There just are no brake failures when it comes to the hunting techniques of the RTP.

Read in other news stories how this finding is very convenient around the time the PM shot himself in the foot down south. Interesting indeed.

I've always said that these people simply won't allow themselves to be voted out. Too much ego and sense of entitlement. I've always wondered what lengths they might go to.

New old news?

high profile enemies of the state can be extremely useful to a military government

Maybe rice isn't the only thing that is being planted.

So where exactly did this large cache of military weapons originate? They can tell which crimes similar serial numbers were used in.....so they know which army depot lost [or sold] them? Concerned about internal security my left knacker.

I remember redshirts took a large cache of weapons from soldiers during their protest, they never returned those guns. The funny thing is that they even share pictures of the large cache of weapons they confiscated from soldiers to show the world.

Mmmm, how convenient. Never mind, have to postpone those pesky elections again. For the sake of national security and reconciliation of course.

The same, tired lies regurgitated time and time again. It's almost like the propagandists have just given up. Time to bring in some new writers...

Just how much red KoolAid do you have to swallow before you believe Ko Tee is a peace-loving democracy activist who would never have weapons in his possession?

I don't think these old hand grenades came from weapons which (may) have been seized in those Bangkok demonstrations. It is perhaps off topic, but if a large cache of weapons were confiscated by the redshirts why were they not used in the subsequent street fighting?

Probably as great a quantity as the jug of green flavour you would need to discount the view that, if he is alive, and is the machiavellian terrorist leader which he liked to dress up as then he would be daft enough to stache a sack of grenades in a known associates rice fields!

To regard that buffoon with a dress allowance from the local army surplus shop as a realistic threat to "national security" is as far fetched as believing "Miss Pinky" is an engine for national reconciliation!

This "worrying discovery" is jolly convenient...

Indeed. Kotee was abducted and planted months ago. Pictures of his corpse were circulated on social media which even Prayuth saw although denying Thai involvement.

Who knows but we know for sure the guy is a violent thug. I have read no news that this is delaying the elections. I stand by my opinion that there is a terrorist wing inside the redshirts responsible for many deaths including children.

Many weapons were take and if these are the same that are found now the redshirt link is true enough.

If these are not those that were taken, then them coming from the same lot is not much proof as a seller (maybe an army man) might have more then just 1 client.

Edit just read they use it not to lift the ban on political activity. Not the same as delaying the elections but a good angle for it to be fake. But it depends on what lot the grenades came from.

You may not have read any news that this will delay elections, but would you wager on them going ahead as planned, given the junta's track record?

No, I don't believe these were seized from those in Bangkok demonstrations as soldiers didn't carry these hand grenades. These grenades were probably from the black market or snuck out of barracks by soldiers.

The thing is that how do you know that automatic rifes that red shirts confiscated were not used in the street fighting? Same weapons, same bullets, no one could tell if shots were fired by real soldiers or fake soldiers. (Not saying real soldiers didn't shoot protesters). There were many video clips of red shirts, or men in black firing military grade weapons. I'll just leave it there won't go off topic too much.
