Hat Yai police were called after dozens of tourists were left high and dry waiting for a bus they had paid for that didn't come.

The tourists, Thais, Malaysians and Westerners - were supposed to be travelling from the southern Thai hub to the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur but when two hours had elapsed they smelt a rat.

The 191 cops came to the scene and soon the company representative came to the market area where everyone was waiting.

Apparently the bus had broken down.

The crisis was resolved when minibuses were laid on to take the tourists to Sadao where another bus was waiting for them to continue their journey.

By 11 am they were all on their way.

Reports that the passengers had paid differing amounts for their tickets were because they were sold at a variety of agencies that charged different amounts.

Manager reported the story.
