Surin Beach seawall will go ahead, vows MaAnn

PHUKET:-- Chief of the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) MaAan Samran has assured that construction of the seawall at Surin Beach will go ahead despite experts stating that building the seawall will seriously damage coastal resources instead of preventing beach erosion.

 

Mr MaAan broke the news in an exclusive interview with The Phuket News’s sister Thai-language publication Khao Phuket following a public meeting at the Thalang District Office on Dec 1.

 

The meeting was held after more than 100 disgruntled local residents and beach operators massed at Surin Beach on Nov 27 to present a list of demands to be answered in the hopes raising the standard of the beach so that it becomes more attractive to tourists.

This guy has never done anything for Phukets premier west coast beach except exploit it.

He and the army threw the baby out with the bathwater when in a frenzy of ( IMO ) warranted demolition , when  they also knocked down the only two large and functioning amenities blocks.

Now where does he think all visitors , which are already numerous ( and will only be more now that Laem Singh Beach is closed ) take a leak ??

He has done nothing to clean up dumped rubbish on the south entrance and its been there ten months ,  he has built a 'treatment plant ' up near the entrance that continues to leech black water onto its once golden sands ( he said that would all go once the restaurants did ) , the stylish  monument to the last monarch is left to rot ,  and he tried to drive his  800 million proposal for Surin that included a wide promenade , beach wall , SURROUNDING WALL ( <deleted> ?) and gates , and a NIGHT MARKET ...

Now he has delivered dozens of concrete pilons to poor old Surin Beach , and started ripping out the very best thing to control erosion , tree roots and shrubbery that binds the sand naturally !

All the wile he is  continuing to call all his destruction   - "Natural".

 

The above mentioned 'residents and businessmen' , the only serious challenge to this idiot ,  are also in it for themselves ... their proposal is heavily laced with references to returning to the previous  status quo... ie to  let them rebuild...

 

Sadly , if there was no army enforcing this parcel of lands designation , one of these two self interests would win , and may yet still win  , and this beautiful strip of sand , and its clear waters , will go the way of Patong Beach .

 

Sigh.

Exploit it to maximum for his own personal financial gain. And pays off the resident businesses to get voted back in each election.
