LTR Visa is Now available for Long Term Residency
Indeed. It does thou have me pondering - if the LTR visa ends up having its 'no taxation on foreign income' benefit rescinded (which I do not believe will happen), but to SPECULATE, if rescinded, what is the approach of the different countries around the world, if one spends less than 180 day in each country? ie say 175 days in Thailand, 170 days in country-A (which taxes residents who are > 182 days in country) and 20-days in country-B (which taxes residents who are > 182 days in country) . In such a hypothetical scenario, none of the 3 countries is one present long enough to be considered a taxation resident. For those who structured their finances/income sources, such that that they have minimized their taxation, is that a viable approach? I suspect in such a hypothetical scenario, one needs to specify still, the location of one's country of residence for various forms when applying for various items (maybe obtaining Visas and such), and one could still (in any such forms) state Thailand is one's residence (for living more than other countries) but for taxation, Thailand may not be one's tax residency. This does not apply to me, as I am pretty much covered by Double Taxation Agreements (DTAs) for my foreign sourced income (and I still have faith in the LTR), but it may be approach for some who don't obtain a benefit from DTAs (who are concerned the LTR could be impacted). -

The annoyance of the ++ prices
I made the same point some time ago and got the same responses from the same people. Those that live in some areas see it as normal, those of us living elsewhere do not. After 25 years and seeing the majority of Thailand, it is not normal practice. There are some "chains" that have that policy but I just avoid them. Certainly rife in Bangkok which makes it a bit difficult to vote with your feet. -

Burmese man found tied up and seriously injured in Rayong
Police are searching for an attacker who brutally assaulted a Burmese man, tied him up, and abandoned him in the eastern province of Rayong. A local in the Pluak Daeng district of Rayong discovered the injured man yesterday, September 22, near Pa Sawai Market and called the Pluak Daeng Rescue Foundation to the scene. Rescuers reported that the man’s arms and legs were bound. He sustained multiple deep cut wounds to his head and legs, and his right arm was broken. The injured man was later identified as Burmese. He could not communicate in Thai, so locals who spoke Burmese assisted the rescuers in communicating with him. He informed the rescue team that he was brutally assaulted in the Nong Yai district of Chon Buri and was later abandoned in Rayong. Rescuers provided first aid before transferring him to Pluak Daeng Hospital. His current condition has not been reported. Officers from Pluak Daeng Police Station are now searching for the assailant. In a related incident, a Burmese man in the central province of Samut Prakan was physically assaulted. The injured Burmese national, 26 year old Miao, sustained serious wounds to the back of his head and right eyebrow. A witness revealed to the media that a female loan shark demanded repayment of 1,500 baht from Miao, but he was unable to repay the amount. He promised to pay on October 5 but the loan shark was unhappy with the delay. Locals in the area believe that the loan shark hired two men, who appeared to be motorcycle taxi riders, to assault Miao. Some witnesses reported seeing the two attackers taking photographs of Miao’s injuries after the attack. They suspect that the photos were sent to the loan shark as proof to claim their payment. Officers from Bang Pu Police Station are investigating the case. The identities of the loan shark and the two attackers are still under investigation. Fire Breaks Out at Industrial Factory in Map Ta Phut, Rayong
Yes fumes from VCM can be hazardous and fumes from smoke are hazardous. As I posted above a level 2 emergency was declared, not just for the factory but the whole industrial estate. The EIC (emergency incident centre) was set up and an at risk map of areas was issued, taking into account wind direction and weather conditions. The Thai map was posted above and my translation is below. The evacuation of the factory took place with staff moving to an up wind location and mobile monitoring of the areas around the site was started, using gas detection devices. Air monitoring results are reported negative for VCM. Yes any smoke is hazardous and toxic, so standard procedures like shutting windows and avoiding the smoke was issued. Further monitoring of the area will take place by local Rayong authorities and DDPM staff. There was a lot of smoke produced by the fire, but the holding tank did not collapse and the VCM feed was isolated. The amount of emergency responders required to control the incident was relatively small and the company had an emergency action plan for this scenario.
