A district official in Yala in the south of Thailand was shot dead in the driver's seat of his pick-up in the early hours of this morning.

Yapha Mamu, 47, had been out with a friend, a phu yai ban, at the Mona Lisa pub in downtown Yala when an argument broke out with a man dressed in black wearing jeans.

Yapha produced a gun to threaten the man and the incident appeared to be over.

But when they left after closing time the man drove a white car alongside Yapha's Toyota Hilux and got out.

Yapha - an official in Raman district - was hit three times in the cheek and body as three shots were fired at point blank range through the driver's window.

Police found him dead in a pool of blood. They said an 11mm gun was used in the killing.

The hunt is on for the shooter who fled the scene.

Phu yai ban and companion of the deceased Saha Yusoh, 55, said they had been to a funeral of a friend and went out to the pub afterwards where an argument broke out. They were on their way home at 3am.

The pub is also known as Dan Duk on Krung Saeng Road.

Police are investigating and hunting for the assailant.

Yapha the official  of this place, with no detail as to what he is an official of yet indicates a Govt employee, produced a gun to threaten the man and the incident appeared to be over.

Geeze! so now officials point guns at people and they represent the law and government! Setting a good example for all! Wonder what Tea Money this dead guy made? Good riddance as far as I am concerned.
