A Turkish man, apparently under the influence of alcohol, was rescued from the rooftop of a 30-storey Pattaya condominium late Friday night.

Police and rescuers from the Sawang Boribun Thammsathan Foundation were called to Lumpini Condominium on Pattaya-Naklua Road past midnight on Saturday when the tourist was spotted walking around restlessly as if he wanted to jump down.

The man was later identified as Seslikaya Huseyin, 37.

Police waited about 20 minutes before they charged upstairs, seized him and later took him to his room.

Later in the morning, the man came to Pattaya Police Station to apologise for his behaviour and thanked police for saving his life. He said he was drunk at the moment he was walking on the rooftop.

Amazing how many people of apparent Muslim background get drunk. Country with biggest per capita consumption of vodka is Kazahstan with 98% Muslim population. Never seen so much booze in supermarkets as in Astana, hundreds of vodkas, and Georgian wine, especially delicious.

I would have thought police custody for the night, would have been better for his own safety.

But, then again, that would involve paperwork !

I don't suppose it would have to!

Lock him up for his own safety and let him go with a bottle of water in the morning!

Likely simply the effort and sense of it beyond them.

yeah, does seem kind of inconsistent with the basic tenets of the religion doesn't it?  I think it goes to show that local customs can supercede an alleged National religion and its espoused life style.  Heck look at Thailand a supposed massively buddhist nation.  Sure is a lot of drinking done by all those Thai buddhists
