When changing jobs in Thailand, how easy is it to change / transfer visa and work permit?  Can it be done in country or do you have to leave country and apply for new visa and start process over again? Does it in anyway depend on cooperation of employers? Would multiple entry permit still be valid or would that need to be applied for again.

Are you a visa issued by an embassy or consulate or an extension of stay issued by immigration?

A work permit cannot be transferred. You existing one would have to canceled before a new one issued.

It is possible for your new employer to apply for a work permit for you and get a work permit approval letter. Then when your existing one is canceled the new one will be issued.

If on an extension of stay you would need a termination letter stating the date you job ends. Then on that date you could cancel your existing extension and apply for a new one with supporting documents from your new employer and the work permit approval letter. Then your existing work permit would need to canceled a the new one issued.

If on a multiple entry non-b visa would only need to cancel your existing work permit and apply for new one since the visa is not tied to your current job.

So all of this could be done in country without need to exit?

Yes it can be done without having to go out for a new non-b visa.
