Justice minister admits woman wrongly detained over scam

JUSTICE Minister Prachin Chanthong said the ministry’s Tak provincial office would provide legal assistance and compensation to Nicha Kiatthanapaiboon, whose ID card was stolen and used by an illegal call centre to open nine bank accounts.

Prachin admitted there was a mistake in taking earlier action against Nicha who was detained by police for three days, so the Justice Ministry will consider providing compensation to the victim as well as legal help to prove her innocence.

The ministry would also cover Nicha’s legal expenses as she showed up yesterday at the Tak provincial court to fight the case while the Anti-Money Laundering Office urged banks to carefully check ID cards used in opening bank accounts or they could face a hefty fine.

Nicha told investigators she was not the person captured in CCTV footage provided by banks’ surveillance system and so her stolen ID card should not have been considered valid for opening the accounts.

The accounts were used by the illegal call centre as part of a scam that lured innocent people to transfer money for bogus claims.

Why didnt Pratchin tell the truth?

Police thought they had the culprit, so sat on their a++es and did nothing, no further investigation needed it was her id card that was used.

Great detective work once again.

So who is she to get this treatment, justified as it may be not generally available to all.

Why is she having to go to court to prove her innocence if it has already been proven.

Go by the rules when you <deleted> up but not while you are <deleted> up.

I wonder what might possibly happen, in the short-term, to the ("investigating") Police Officers involved in the case, after the Justice Minister Prachin Chanthong admitted that there was a mistake in taking earlier action against Nicha who was detained by Police for three days.

Thai, admits, and wrongly   in the same line,  wow!

The only mistake is allowing the RTP to exist in its current form
