NACC ‘can’t suspend’ Prawit over luxury watches

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan

The National Anti Corruption Commission (NACC) president, Pol General Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, said on Monday that is not the agency’s role to consider suspending Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan from duty in regard to allegations that he possessed expensive watches without reporting them.

Watcharapol said the inquiry was at an initial stage and the NACC has been doing its best to look into all aspects of the issue. He said the NACC has procedures to follow, and its secretary-general has already reported twice to commissioners about the case.

As Prawit has been seen wearing more than 20 luxury watches on different occasions, the NACC would need to find out more details, Watcharapol said.

Prawit, he added, had not yet reported anything in addition to his initial letter of explanation to the NACC.

What a load of nonsense !!

Why do the NACC just come out with the TRUTH?

We are giving him more time to come up with more BS excuses.

Also if he gets suspended it will open up a whole new can of worms.

I really don't know how this man can stay in his position. Add to that, I really don't know how he can stay in his position and come out in public and preach to people. That's not the kind of person you want with any form of power. Certainly not a person you'd want representing you. Absolutely shameless.

It would be most interesting to dig a little deeper and find out how many luxury cars, designer suits, jewelry pieces for madame, expensive homes, and fat bank accounts Prawit, this beacon of transparency, honesty and incorruptibility, has allegedly... uhm... "borrowed" from since-deceased close personal friends.

However, it is painfully obvious that the NACC is a spineless, impotent dragon with clipped claws that instead of fire only breathes lukewarm air. But that is hardly surprising when one looks at the backgrounds of some of its commissioners - and especially its secretary-general.

Dog and Pony Show. The Army runs the NACC by proxy and this case proves it for everyone to see.

Unfortunately Thailand has gone from having a corrupt government ruling under a Democracy to a corrupt government ruling through the barrel of a gun. No elections, no political gatherings (unless you're one of the good people) and greatly reduced freedom of speech.

So essentially the positive elements of a Democracy have gone while the dark elements e.g corruption remain as strong as ever. Hope the Junta Huggers are enjoying their brave new world.

I wish the Thai people would once get a honest and sincere government. Corruption is like a cancer, if the ulcer is recognized it needs to be cut out immediately and consistently. Unfortunately, that does not happen, and so thailand will stay at the intensive care unit for infirmity patients for decades.

No, it doesn't prove anything yet, the investigation is not over.

Gdgbb says the exact same thing on the BangkokPost. Keeps reiterating that the investigation isn’t over yet like he could still be found of any wrongdoing.

What odds would you give that he’ll be found of any wrongdoing?

Foreigners are so shocked by this but amongst Thais there's been a long term acceptance that elitism is at the very core of Thai Society whether it's being run by a democratically elected government or a military appointed dictator.

"...investigation isn’t over yet like he could still be found of any wrongdoing".

What does that mean? What is the Gdgbb?

Maybe so, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be called out. The locals' meek acquiescence on this only serves to encourage it, so are actually complicit in the problem and it's perpetuity.

'Can't', 'don't want to', 'will not' ...do anything against that horrible, very powerfull person. Did anyone expect anything 'better'?

The more so with one of his dedicated servants at the head of the NACC, ...and leading the 'investigation' (not even having the tiny bit of ethics needed to recuse oneself in such circumstances...)!

It says a lot about that aeropage of old military brass, 'running' this country for their own, erm, 'financially security', and that of their families and pawns, for the next few generations, as gliding at stratospheric hights above 'the people', and Justice...

There must be many other countries, alas, having some general(s) without a sense of honour, but I doubt any would have such a despicable character as Minister of Defence, and, Deputy Prime Minister, well except maybe in some 'banana lands'...

He should invest in a eyebrow comb and a decent pair of scissors!

You cant buy class!

A certain Dr Guillotin invented a more radical tool in the 18th century which was able to take care, once and for good, of such 'esthetic' problems...

As for class, whichever large, big, huge idea of himself that 'person' must have, I doubt it even ever came up to him he could one day have, any, class...

Oh blimey, poor Prawit is being dragged over the coals a lot by the media ...enough I say ! Come on, in the land of carapchan from the bobby on the corner to the PM, the media has singled him out. If anything it is just another political smear to make our beloved government look bad.

Oh well, roll on the elections, followed by red shirt power, followed by more chaos in Bangkok and a few more deaths to boot, followed by another military coup (they happen often you know). So cut all this out, leave Prawit alone, and let our beloved  leader Prayuth to do his job eh.
