UK Visa & Immigration to Relocate Visa Application Centres from Bangkok to New Delhi

Featured Replies

When an application for a visa is made do the applicants have to surrender their passports while their application is under consideration?

Yes, because the visa is put into the passport. Maybe the U.K. will move to electronic visas!

Surely the application is considered first and the applicant is subsequently advised of the decision?

Instead of the meaningless corporate waffle, would be nice to know exactly how this will be of benefit.

Because the Indians speak much better english i guess.

What this means is "someone" in India  for sure  will end  up copying your passport + all details and selling them to the highest bidder.I guarantee it!

Once made a phone call to Dell in India and within an hour I had someone  call me from India  offering to "fix my computer" by  connecting to it and getting rid  of all the nasties  that I knew I didnt have.

Since i gave my email to Air Asia i get loads of spam from Paypal, Apple, Banks and whatnot.

Other than teething probs I foresee very little difference to the normal inconvenience associated with applying for UK visas.

No. The applicant doesn't find out until they open their passport.

If they need to phone the applicant, as they often do now, will a native Thai speaker be used?

Customers in Thailand are not expected to experience changes in visa service standards.

Well, can't have it all.

Not in the outsourcing business, they don't. Probably why a number of British businesses eventually decided to capitulate to customers' complaints and actually service them from the UK.

The ECOs will still be British civil servants.

The ECO's are mainly Thai, so are most of the British Embassy staff.

The ECO's are mainly Thai.

The assistants are but not the ECOs. They have to be UK trained civil servants.

Sorry Brewster but your wrong.

Sorry Brewster but your wrong.

Ok. I'm just speaking from my experience of friends who work as ECOs. Maybe someone else with knowledge can confirm.

Let see,

Currently, you hand your paperwork in at Trendy Building, it is put in a bag and transported maybe 2/3 miles to the British Embassy where it is looked at by an ECO (who is, as I understand, a UK official on secondment to Thailand). It is then returned by the same method. Total distance travelled 4miles and maybe four or five people involved. Total time in transit, 2hrs?If some thing goes astray there is a small amount of places it could be.

Proposed,

Hand in documents, put in bag and transported to the airport, where it sits until there is transport to take it to India (1800 miles) Arrives Indian airport and sits until transport to whatever building is arranged. It is then seen by????(Is it an ECO or has this been subcontracted out to a native Indian “with training”. )

Documents are then sent back by the reverse route.3600 miles travelled

Total number of people involved, who knows probably dozens. How many of which have been security vetted Time in transit ?days

Anyone who has been to an Indian airport know how chaotic they are and how difficult it is to achieve even the most simple of tasks. The possibility of documents getting “lost” does not bear thinking about.

Your visa application contains Passport, Personal details, bank accounts etc. a goldmine for anyone who is less than honest.

I just cannot see how there will be any problems (sarcastic font not available)

I know someone currently working as an ECO in New Delhi (having previously worked as an ECO in Nigeria, Pakistan and China). Bangkok was one of the most sought after postings and is now gone. At least he'll get to deal with Thai girls' applications from a distance now.

That isn't how it will work!

Your documents and passport will not leave Thailand.

Your documents will be scanned and e-mailed for an approval or refusal decision.

Passport, documents returned/collected.

That would make sense, so I hope you're right. Currently for Settlement visas in Bangkok the supporting documents are scanned and emailed to Sheffield. Does the applicant's passport remain in Bangkok?

If they are going to scan every document that is submitted, the scope for missing information is going to be off the charts.Who is going to do the scanning ?There are already numerous complaints about documents submitted  not being seen by the ECO.The last visa application submitted was over 1/2 thick with things like six months bank statements ,photocopy of sponsors passport etc.Where did you get the information about the scanning?

Yes.

The Visas (vignettes) are issued from the Embassy.

Original documents and Passport never leave.

Settlement visa applications have to be scanned now in Bangkok. Documents have to copied onto scanning/barcoded sheets first. It's a pain and one reason why they are currently taking so long to process.

Possibly from an Immigration advice document about 6 months ago, or an Immigration news article.

Plans to streamline the system and documents to be scanned and sent to a central department servicing a region.

From what I hear, they are not currently achieving their targets. Sheffield is a mess!

Sheffield has always been in a mess..........and I'm not talking about Immigration   :-)

Those are the official figures for December 2017.

How many total UK Visa applications per annum would you think VFS Bangkok receive?

Apart from a probable increase in handling time, I think there will be an important loss in local information.  Will there be ECOs dedicated to Thai applications, or will ECOs routinely deal with all covered countries?

I've just heard on another forum of a family permit being rejected because the Malaysian marriage certificate was misinterpreted as an application to marry.  That wouldn't have happened if the ECO had routinely dealt with Malaysian applications.  I can remember a nasty moment when an IO at Gatwick asked where we had married, because our marriage certificate said we had registered our marriage.

Regardless of the Country all foreign documents must be translated into English, and one requirement to become an ECO would be to read, write and speak English.

Prime example! The Malaysian marriage certificate should have been translated into English. Any misinterpretation would suggest it was on the translators part, not the ECO.

Sounds as though your wife showed the Kor Ror 2 (Registration of marriage) rather than the Kor Ror 3 (Marriage certificate).

Then why can the documents not be e-mailed to UK for approval or refusal. Why do they need ECO based in India? Utter nonsense....sorry NO SENSE.

Wonder whether Brian Davidson is just making a bold move, to show he's the new boss.

I fail to see how doing this, as outlined by Ceegee on here, is nothing more than a form of posturing.

Still, I guess with his 'bonus' or performance related pay, he'll be able to refurnish his "Colonial Home".
