This is the nub of the matter; the use of the law to destroy your political enemies.

Love the 'Reds' or hate them (both viable thoughts), they have been on the receiving end of a great injustice. When law is applied to one side of an issue and not to the other, it is not law anymore, it is persecution.

Period.

There is little hope for Thailand politically until all sides operate under the same rules.

Just to add to that, and ALL persons are treated equally from the people at the very top to the people at the very bottom, Thais or foreigners.

Even if the loan story is true, the loan a gift of some not insignificant value.

A quick look round the internet shows it is possible to rent watches for a monthly fee. For instance, a  Rolex Submariner Date "50th Anniversary Edition" goes at one site (elevenjames.com) for US$300 a month. The cheapest watch goes for $200 a month. Well above he stated allowed government limit, especially considering the the "loans" lasted much more than a month, supposedly.

An academic  contrived  bit  of  bs  claim  to  fame !If  Prawit's  claim  that the  watches  were   borowed but the  lender  has  now   deceased  that   does  not automatically make  them  personal assets  which  require  declaration.

If  there  is  any  legal issue  with  that  situation  is  that  the  watches  should  have  been  returned  to  the  estate  of  the   deceased rather  than being  retained.

But  if  the  assumption  the  loan   was  permanent  then  ok  the  assets  should   be  declared.

IMO this  whole  issue  is a typical  attempt  to  undermine  a  key   figure   for  the  sake  of  it   rather  than  for   any  legitimate   purpose other  than for those  involved  in  the  initiation  of  that.

Typically  media and  political aspirations  obscure the  facts and  inflate  speculation.

If  the  same  agents had  legitimate claim  then  instead  of  focussing  on  a  material  object why  do they  not  investigate  and  reveal  provable factual  evidences  of evidedential  illegitimate   income  which could purchase such expensive  objects?

The  whole  thing  smacks  of   bs  for me.

I think your user name is quite appropriate if you believe this creature is actually a key player in anything other than personal enrichment....

Prawit should be fired even if, by some miracle, he is innocent of graft.  He brought disgrace to himself and failed to be an example of the people he serves.  He does not take his actions seriously or hold his office in esteem.

So just to be clear, if innocent of corruption he should be sacked for borrowing a watch from an old friend as it sets a bad example for the Thai people?

No he should be sacked as he is clearly a bit dim and believes himself to be above the law ...

He was compliant in the illegal overthrow of the government that he and his accomplices justified by saying they were going to tackle corruption, fffs they never even started on that one...

The complete disdain these people have for the rule of law tells it own story....

Which bit of this is not relevant to a self appointed law breaker who is blatantly giving two fingers to the rule of law...

You apologists really need to up your game

Never mind the watches; how has his personal wealth increased by 30 million in six years whilst receiving a stipend of under 1 million per year?

Well, you have to remember that hundreds of thousands of quality people took to the streets to enable the military to get back to the trough.

You can't really begrudge the men in green from having a good feed now that they are there . It would be a slap in the face to all the yellowshirts who put them there.

This is a lot of fuss about nothing. As soon as they and every member of their family is sated at the public's expense they will let go of the reins of power to let the starving politicians have a feed.

It's called Thainess. Running the country to benefit the few at the expense of the many.

I  have  no  knowledge  of  what  Prawit  has  or  has  not  declared. Is  there a law  that says a Military  officer who  receives a salary  of  roughly  1  million can not  have  personal  investment interests accrued  or  inherited that  earn a substantial  amount  more? As a  political  figure  he is  required  to  declare  such to  avoid  potential  conflict  of  interest. Nobody  is  pointing a  finger   at  any other issue  apart from  snide  comment  about his net worth.

Many  political  figures  in Thailand  have  great wealth. That usually  is  key  in  them  gaining  political  positions.

Thaksin  certainly is  an example  of  that and  he surely did  not  get  richer  on a  PM  salary alone!

Prawit  has  provided a  plausible explanation that  has  been  backed  up  by others. If  it  is  true  then has  he  broken  the  law? Did  he consider  these  watches  as  his  own property? Or  did  he still consider  them  borrowed?

If  this  man has reasonable  wealth and  could  have  purchased  them  himself  over time why would  he find  reason  to  fabricate  the  story  about  the  deceased  friend?

So  this  issue  is  about  the   possession  of  the  watches. Why  not  the possession  of  30  million?

The  answer  is likely  that  the  cash  is  legitimate and source declared.

The  watches  are  in  limbo ownership so the  do downers  have  taken the  opportunity to  stir  trouble.

I  must explain I am  no  fan  of  Prawit.  His  nasal  plugs  on  any close up  picture  give me  the   jeebies!

But there seems  to  be  too  much hounding   but   no  genuine  hunting  going on.

Hahahaha..... Prawit is guilty of "taking gifts" worth a few mill. His boss managed to steal the bloody country under the guise of saving Thailand. He is just another self serving politician, nose in the trough gobbling up whatever he can while he can and the people he serve expect no less. Sack him and replace him with another politician just waiting for their opportunity to steal. And the same applies in the west.
