Hi, I have a few questions regarding the cancellation of an extension of stay.

I'll be leaving Thailand to head back to the UK at the end of my current contract, the 31st of March. My extension of stay is also in line with this, expiring on 31/03/2018.

However, the member of staff at my school who handles visas, wp's etc. has informed me that she will be going to the immigration office in mid-late March with a letter (I'm guessing this is a notification of termination?) to notify them that I'll be leaving on the 31st. This worries me.

Is it possible that what I'm being told is true and that I'll still have until the 31st to leave the country? Can/will immigration actually post date a cancellation?

She also mentioned that she will be cancelling the work permit (which is in my possession), but not until the end of March. So I'm left pretty confused and worried.

Any advice is hugely appreciated.

Cheers.

Immigration will post date the extension cancellation to the date shown on a termination letter a few days before that date.

The school would have to have your passport and your consent for them to cancel the extension. Normally immigration will not do it unless you are present when it is done.

Thanks, do I need to be present when the termination letter is submitted?

Also, is it necessary for the school to make the cancellation? Wouldn't it be simpler just to let the extension expire on the 31st?

It may not get canceled unless you are there or you give power of attorney for the them to do it.

It is best to have the extension formally canceled.
