Many dishes exists in their "normal" version and in the "Kee Mao" version.

Eg: Pad Mama Thale (Fried noodles with seafood) and Pad Mama Kee Mao Thale (Spicy fried noodles with seafood).

Can anybodt tell me what ingredients "Kee Mao" are?

TIA

In my limited knowledge of the Thai language is Kee Mao means a drunkard or someone who is always drunk. So maybe they add whisky to the 'improved' recipe.

Obviously, I stand to be corrected ........... but it's the first reply :shock1:

Kee mao means literally 's h i t -drunk' similar to our UK description of someone drunk as being 's h i t -faced'.

My Thai missus has no idea why it has such a name as there is no alcohol content. The main ingredients are sprigs of fresh young green peppercorns, my favourite Thai basil named 'Hoorapaa', bergamot leaf (similar to bay leaf), and Thai ginseng, all stir fried with garlic, nid noi oyster sauce, nid noi light soi sauce, and nid noi fish sauce. Sometimes a bit of veg. like babycorn, mange tout, or carrot is added. Oh! I nearly forgot the chili because I always order it without chili.

As far as I know it's basically for versions of dishes that fit to eat while drinking. The only "alcohol content" is what you add on the side.

No it doesn't.  There's no potty mouth involved.

There are lots of similar expressions using khîi which don't involve coprolalia, e.g. khîiˑkòp (wood shavings), khîiˑklua (fearful), khîiˑkhaˑmàw (soot).  khîi in this context is an idiomatic prefix implying a bad or negative trait.

My understanding is that's it's meant to be something you eat when you have a hangover. All the chilies provide a jolt. Defenitely no booze in it and I never heard that's it's meant to be eaten while binge drinking either.
