Members of the People Go Network face off with police in Pathum Thani province on Jan. 31.

BANGKOK — Police on Thursday will challenge in court the right to walk cross country by a group of demonstrators who say the authorities are already flouting a court order permitting them to do so.

The People Go Network, who organized the Bangkok to Khon Kaen marchcalling for more civil liberties, said Wednesday in a statement that campaigners and their supporters have been harassed and intimidated by police officers shadowing their progress.

Disgraceful as it is, someone should tell them that the Thai Police are a law unto themselves. To expect them to act decently, obey the law, and not to harass and intimidate, is being extremely hopeful.

Can't do that. Whoever does will be jailed.

the police has a history of disobeying anyone and anything, from PM's direct orders to court orders. It's what happens when you don't can't get punished.

The glaring and true problem of Thailand.

Both the army and the police do not understand that their fundamental responsibility is to follow and protect the government that is in power.

Whoever that may be at the time.

What they really don't understand is that all the money and prestige that they possess actually belongs to the Thai people.

The RTP currently operate under the authority of the NCPO. Unless ORDERED otherwise by Prayut, they are not restricted by any human rights and liberties guaranteed by the junta's own written constitution. Their behavior towards the public directly reflects Prayut's attitude towards the Thai people - "I do what I want." (to paraphrase)

Another sad time for justice in Thailand.

This country is now operating with contradictory laws. A constitution that allows free speech, free assembly and peaceful demonstrations. But NCPO 'laws' that ban such things. The courts haven't got a clue how to handle it, the police will assist whoever pays best.

curious photo;

good to see people accusing police; positive sign as the police here are guilty of quite a lot, not the least of which is breaking the laws (!!) and not enforcing them when it comes to others;

whole effort wont amount to much due to the thai 'justice system'

But like lower ranked soldiers, what choice do they have?

"I was just following orders."

Each general commands typically 10,000 soldiers. Obedience to chain of command is a matter of trust and respect. Soldiers have choices.

The Kingdom's rulers only pay lipservice to the courts, as it suits them, unfortunately. :sad:

'There is nothing under the sun that the Thai police cannot do.'

Another idiot utterance from one of the (past) 'elite'. The one thing they cannot do is to serve the people! :post-4641-1156693976:
