Anyone know where you can swallow a pill with camera for gastroscopi ? I hate those tubes.

You can get a capsule endoscopy at a few places, in Chiang Mai it's available at Sriphat but it costs 45,000!.

The regular gastroscopy costs about 11,000 and your're fully sedated from start to finish, it's an effortless process and you don't know any of the details..

Expensive.

I am pretty sure you can get it cheaper than that in Bangkok. In one of the private or public hospitals.

Let me know what you find out, I'll be interested to know - I had it done two years ago in CM and then it cost me 32k, I was surprised the price has increased that much. BUT be aware there are times when the capsule doesn't go down into the intestine as it should, instead, it just bounces around in the stomach. In that scenario, the capsule has to be helped on its way with, yes, you guessed it, a gastroscope.

11000 thb endoscopy in public hospital ?

But you cannot do it when you want, only a doctor can decide that you need it, and I guess that they do not decide it often.

An endoscopy can be considered part of preventative care and requested as such, as w/ a colonoscopy:

"The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) recommends screening patients with multiple risk factors associated with esophageal adenocarcinoma for Barrett's esophagus [34]. Risk factors considered by the AGA include:

●Age 50 years or older

●Male sex

●White race

●Chronic GERD

●Hiatal hernia

●Elevated body mass index

●Intra-abdominal distribution of body fat"

Looks like "male" and "fat" should do it.  Hey--that you? However, if you don't have multiple factors and they detect you're just a hypochondriac then your chances of getting one in a public hospital would, I imagine, diminish. But private hospital--only the wallet's the limit, eh.

I also do not believe that any public hospital will allow you to do it as preventive...

It's already difficult to get it when you need it !

What do you mean by "public hospital"? The 11,000 baht I referenced in my post was in a private hospital in Chiang Mai, that was how much I paid last year, I have no idea how much government hospital charge for the procedure. The procedure can be done on a request basis, as JSP has said, anyone over 50 years of age should have it done.

A public hospital is a government hospital and you cannot decide when to get a procedure done.

If you went to a private hospital and paid only 11000 it is very cheap, because ALL Bangkok and Pattaya hospitals charge around 25000 thb for this.

So maybe you still don't understand what is the difference between and public and private hospital. I really doubt that you paid 11000 in a private hospital.

If you look on the Chiang Mai Forum under the pinned topics you'll see the pinned list of medical specialists in Chiang Mai, a list that I compiled and have maintained since 2012. I really don't care what you think.

30000 for gastroscopy and colonoscopy ?

you didn't spend a night at hospital ?

No need to as it is all done and dusted in under 2 hrs or so, esp with mild sedation AND 30k baht for both procedures was cheap!!
