A young Thai woman put appropriateness aside as she jumped on a moving stretcher to give CPR to a man following a fire in Bangkok.

Staff from Emergency Medical Services were transporting the unconscious man to an ambulance following the fire in Chan Road Soi 51.

"Nong Jaen" - who appeared to have experience with the Ruam Katanyu Foundation but was not in the uniform of a medic - jumped on the man's abdomen and desperately pumped his chest as other medics transported him to the ambulance.

The drama was all witnessed by many bystanders in a narrow sub-soi.

She posted the experience on her page on Facebook - Janny Peeraya - said Sanook. She apologized for how it might look to some but said she was trying to save a life.

She reported that the man died. He had been taken to Charoen Krung hospital with Nong Jaen accompanying him in the ambulance with other staff.

Sanook said that comment online had been largely positive with people recognizing her awareness of the situation and her public spiritedness.

While some questioned the appropriateness of what she did Sanook backed her up by saying that she could have been the only hope for the man who could have been revived between the site of the fire and the ambulance.

Pictures that accompanied the story showed the petite young woman in the uniform of a Ruam Katanyu staff member and in a university uniform.

The incident happened Wednesday and has been shared more than ten thousand times online.

  • What a terrific effort to help someone. A girl in a million.

  • Seems like the person writing the story is trying to make some parallells with sexual behaviour. Shame on you. It´s just a woman trying to help saving a life with education for it. Good work done!

Well done to the young lady, maybe other can learn from her heroism, you would think the ambulance crew would have conducted this as soon as they got the deceased outside, as opposed to just throwing him on the stretcher if that was the case, as we don't have any footage prior to the young lady straddling him, will all due respect to the ambulance crew.

RIP

it may appear to some because of her position, she wasn't giving CPR to her victim. If you read the full article you will see jump on the stretcher to apply CPR.

good girl.

Exactly.  On both points.  It was just a tawdry attempt to get extra clicks.  And bravo to the young lady.

Well done that young lady !
Anyone who sees this as something other than a courageous young lady attempting to save a life are wrong !!
Unfortunately her attempts failed but she can still be proud of her actions .

RIP to the man .

Although you should let  your dirty old man post for himself, rather than posting for him and guessing what he would say

Hard to believe that some of our beloved netizens would post about this being inappropriate. :post-4641-1156693976:

Doing what she was trained to do, it is a response to a situation you are trained for.

Great response, could have saved a life, but if not she responded appropriately and professionally to the situation she was trained for.

Great Job! Keep up the good work!

Thanks You!

What a pity more people are not as willing as her unfortunately the fella didn’t make it but well done to her for trying

Totally appropriate. That skirt opening over me containing a feminine beauty with her hands all over me may likely bring me back from the otherside. With a sense of urgency to boot;-)

On a closer to reality note; knowledge & education regarding CPR has been on the increase here with civilians. Lots of events now with nursing staff sharing their knowledge & teaching procedures. Good to see;-)

Instead of numerous people posting that observation , could they not just "like" the first person who posted that , rather than repeating it again ?

How could anyone take away from that scenario, anything other than a good person trying to save a dying man's life? Kudos to Nong Jaen!

These sorts of statements just make my blood boil.  Saving somebodies life goes away beyond acknowledging Victorian like era constraints put on women.

NO apology is needed for doing something so heroic.  How something looks is trivial to those with nimble minds.

from the video it does not appear she checked for breathing or pulse before starting cpr.

this is one brave lady, she knew the emergency procedures and followed them, while the men just packed the guy on a stretcher.and being appropriate? I realize that not many Thai's read thai visa but the hypocrisy here is amazing! some of them get upset because she is necessarily showing a little leg? my god man let those prudes go to any soi in bangkok and pattaya and see what is going on!  the thai's don't even want to open that can of worms, the thai visa police would spend all day deleting comments!

Pity no one helped her, she tried valiantly, great effort young lady. I wonder if the ambulance persons understand CPR; 2 breaths into the mouth after 15 chest pumps?

throwing a patient on a "stretcher" before giving immediate assistant at the scene is common in the country. then the pick up ambulance can proceed to the traffic jam and can die inside.

Thai girls, always stepping up, whether its breaking up a drunken brawl, providing for their family or saving a life. Great kid; well done.

Good Girl but may I ask for clarification, Why didn't the ambulance crew do the Job??

I admire the enthusiasm and work ethic. I'd like to think any paramedic would do same. Sorry it didn't end well the the dead guy.

It is now 30 to 2...new guide lines.

that's 30 compression's (pumps)  to 2 breaths.

Have done this many many times and i can tell you it is very hard work.

Incidentally to get the rhythm right i always used to use the beat of

Staying Alive by the Bee Gees.

Have a Nice Day.

Where did this obsession with "appropriateness" come from anyway? Should she have just stood aside and make no attempt to save a life because prurient imaginations would paint a stupid picture?

In living memory Thai women regularly went topless. Now everything is considered "inappropriate, lewd", etc., even attempts to save a life.

One of the less satisfactory attempts to emulate Western culture IMO.

An extremely rare sight to see an ordinary person with such commitment. God bless this little girl.

Well done girl! When is appropriateness more important than a life? If he had come round he would have thought he'd died and arrived in heaven. All jokes aside she is to be congratulated.
