DHL or the FDA are playing games

Featured Replies

I ordered   4 bottles of Curcumin with Pepper and 2 bottles of Pumpkin seed oil from Swanson USA They arrived at DHL last week. DHL informed me the had to contact

the Thai FDA about the product Since they are food product I did not feel that was a problem I would just have to pay an excise tax and clearing fees to DHL

Well now DHL informs me that the FDA says I can only bring one bottle of each in. DHL said they would clear one bottle of each through customs. So I asked what they are going to do with the rest of the bottles. They said they would eventually forward them back to the shipper. Why did I not believe them but  OK fair? So I asked them to give me a copy of the letter or fax or email from the FDA stating I was only allowed to bring in one bottle of each. They said the spoke with the FDA and was not able to forward anything other than Photos they took of the bottles and the Document they filled out for customs But no correspondence from the FDA nothing  This seems highly irregular. I did not know that they could JUST let DHL know "Oh just let him import 1 bottle of each He cannot import the rest of them

Any thoughts or comments or even resolutions to what I see as a scam rather than proper importation and regulations that they SAY are from the FDA

Here are many topics about the scam by DHL, you are not the first ;)

You should just avoid shipping anything to Thailand with a courier like DHL, always use standard post.

As others have noted, the couriers in Thailand are very likely corrupt. Why would they not be like other businesses here (rhetorical)?

There is a reason Thais fly to foreign countries to buy stuff they could have shipped here and this corruption between the agency and the courriers is one reason.

I suggest looking into services like www.borderfree.com
