BANGKOK, 27 February 2018 (NNT) – Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Development Policy Committee has approved high speed rail links to three airports.

Ahead of the body’s latest meeting, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha, as chairman of the EEC Development Policy Committee, remarked that he wanted its members to focus on efforts that are possible and seek to support them and promote public understanding on aspirations which are or are not practical. He added that unrealistic goals are those that require distortions of the law, while those that are realistic comply with the law.

The committee then proceeded to commission a four month study into expanding the EEC so that it connects with Bangkok and other surrounding provinces, including those on Thailand’s border. The study is to be presented to the committee once legislation supporting the expansion is passed.

The panel also approved principles for high speed rail links to Don Muang Airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport and U-Tapao Airport. The project is one of five urgent agenda for infrastructure development needed by the EEC.

Six months later it will be reduced to normal speed train due to insufficient budget lol

Which would be a very wise decision, while the existing network can do the job nicely, with speeds up to

175 km/h.

Needed are upgrading of tracks, doubling of tracks, new rolling stock and  building necessary new lines.

Talking about a dream is one thing.... actually making the dream come true is another. They can add these three HS lines to the growing list of dream trains. Wind the clock back to 2010.

This is what was reported then"

In October 2010 the Thai parliament approved initial proposals for a high-speed rail network. Five lines capable of handling 250km/h would radiate from Bangkok".

Back to reality in 2018 and what is there today. Eight years on and still the same old slow speed trains puttering along. But to give credit, they have at least managed to organise a piss-up, ground- breaking, back slapping party back in December to commemorate the start of construction of the Thailand-China venture. What construction....where? They are hopeless at just about everything regardless of who is in government.

What a load of...............

Before they start wobbling off about fast trains how about putting some down escalators and lifts that work on the airport train stations to Swampy, so people with big bags don't have to carry them down.

How about a decent rail connection to Don Muang.

Why is it that we always hear about expensive new schemes when the ones they have don't work properly? No need to answer, we know why.

You mean when Prayut uses Article 44 to bypass laws to expedite his high speed train projects and the EEC development? By his criteria then, such use of Article 44 is a distortion of the law, usually with regretful results that require a counter-order to remedy.
