"I Love To Be A Sailor" by Harry Lauder

I think I love a lassie, they say all sailors do,

I've courted her for forty years or maybe forty two.

There's no mistake about her. 'cause she is a dear wee dear,

And everytime I sail away, I whisper in her ear.

Chorus

I love to be a sailor, a sailor, a sailor,

I love to sail upon the ocean blue, yes I do.

I love to be a sailor, a sailor, a sailor,

Sailing on the good ship Kangaroo.

Patter (spoken)

You know when I was a wee, wee boy at the schoolroom, I used to hear them talking

about a sailor having a wife in every port an, why of course mind you, that was when I was

a wee, wee boy! And when I hear anybody saying now that a sailor has a wife in every port,

I just say to mysel' "well, it's better to have a wife in every port than have them all stuck up in

one port." Ay, ay, ay, oh, but it's a grand life as a sailor. A sailor has a free and open life. there

you are you're way there out on the bounding, rolling, seething, ceaseless sea from morning till

night. Oh, I tell you ... I tell you there's nothing like a life on the rolling sea.

Chorus (repeat)

Patter (spoken) Sailing on the good ship Kangaroo.

You having a laugh today Ken :D .....who's Harry Lauder ?

You Give Love a Bad Name......Bon Jovi

"Love Makes The World A Merry-Go-Round"........Harry Lauder

That's Sir Harry to you Chavy,

Only one of the best Music Hall performers of his time (or so my old Grandad assured me) and yes I'm always up for a laugh.. :o:D:D

Try Googling him though Chavy, he had quite an amazing career - my musical taste & studies are ecclectic I must admit..... :D

and that is debatable see :-

Hatx.GIF A site devoted to recording technology history states:

1908 - John Lomax, on his first trip west, recorded a black saloon keeper in San Antonio singing "Home on the Range" on an Edison cylinder and the lyrics were written down and published in the book "Cowboy Songs and Frontier Ballads" by Lomax in 1910 and the song became a national favorite..."
