What it comes to is that the greater part of national defense is national defense policy. And that is where Trump has thrown to personal and thoughtless edicts. What country views Canada as a potential military adversary? Not North Korea. One might say the same about Mexico.

You mean "overseas" like Canada.?The USA actually has a 2 billion dollar trade surplus with Canada for steel. In fact 50 percent of all US steel exports go to Canada. As for aluminium, Canada has access to vast amounts of cheap hydropower electricity. The US simply can't compete with that.

As for Europe, they're already talking about targeting US industries.

The Dow futures where down almost 900 points on November 8th 2016. The Dow's 31% gain during Trump's first year is the best since FDR. Considering all the opposition and resistance he has been getting since he announced  to run for President,it's amazing.This if anything  truly shows a smart business man and a remarkable  desire  to achieve what he set out to do for America,to  make American's first and great again . President Trump’s former adviser Carl Icahn sold off millions of dollars worth of stocks tied to the steel industry one week before the president announced new tariffs on steel and aluminum, according to reporting from The Washington Post.

 

Icahn sold $31.3 million worth of stock in the Manitowoc Company, a manufacturer of construction cranes, according to a Feb. 22 SEC filing.

 

Manitowoc’s stock fell to $26 after Trump’s announcement. Icahn sold his shares for about $32 to $34 each, even though he had not actively been trading the company’s stock since January 2015.

Amazing indeed. The man-child seems hellbent on starting a trade war and that will negatively effect the world economy, of which the US is very much a part.

A thought has occurred to me (yes even to me it happens. generally around the time of the full moon) Maybe Trump's steel tariff announcement is a ploy to help Saccone (R) win the election over Lamb in that Pennsylvania district. There's still some steelmaking going on there and it would help Saccone. The latest poll shows the Republican 3 points behind. But most likely that poll was conducted at least partially before the announcement. Once the election is held, the tariff threat may disappear. There does already seem to be some waffling going on.
