Reactions icons on replies

Featured Replies

I don't expect this thread to go far but that's something that has being in my mind.

I Participate in this forum for a few of reasons,

When I am away from Thailand , mostly for work, it keeps me in touch with the place I love

I have get questions answered . Where in KK do I? or Ho do I ? etc

and I get  to exchange ideas with some very interesting people by whom regardless of whether I agree or disagree with,  I always  get challenged to think.

Then we have  "reactions" . When I get a notification and I see that "someone reacted to my post"  rather than  "someone quoted my post" I am somewhat disappointed.  I am not beyond the adulation of "Likes"  but that's the end of the conversation.

It is nice to get the "Likes" it reaffirms your opinion on the subject, and it is nice to get the "laugh" icon ,being that I am a bit of an aspiring clown. but when you write something not funny at all and some one invokes the" laugh"  icon you wonder , what does that person find funny about that . Obviously that person must disagree with what I said but what is it? And then there is the "confused" icon. What are you confused about?

I think those reactions should be eliminated for no reason other than that I think they limit participation.  If one likes what you said one should respond saying so, if one does not like what you said one should respond telling you why. If one finds what you said funny an LOL should be enough and would increase one's post count, and if one is confused  one should ask for clarification.

And I don't think they are good for TVF's business model, as it reduces the vibrancy of participation and IMO impacts their business model.

Anyway , that's my thoughts on the subject  , Let's see how many "Likes" "Laughs" and "confused" I get LOL.

Your overlooking the readership who may read and react whereas participants if wishing to add a comment, will normally do just that. Two different consumers altogether.

I like what you say, but the icon thing is not that important imo.

The strange thing is, if i get 1 like, 1 sad and 1 confused icon, my post is "popular".

You are right of course, two different consumers. I wonder if TVF includes reactions as participation or as the say in the advertising industry "eyeballs"

It is funny, conceivably one can have the highest reputation count consisting of nothing but "confusion" reactions.

They are really not important to me either, other than affirmation that my thinking is on the right track. I would care more if  we could exchange them for prices, perhaps a commemorative plate set  with the picture of the poster of the year on it,

eating from those plates, one look at that mug and I would be sure to lose my appetite. We could call it the TVF diet. LOL

PS:  My apologies to the poster of the year, I missed it so I don't know who won, so it could be a very handsome man, but knowing the motley crew that inhabits this forum............... my self included.

You don't get points on the board from confusion or crying icons. At least I don't think you do.

Perhaps we should be able to react  to" Reactions" we dont like  with a "raised middle finger" Icon  and reactions we like with a "blowing kisses " Icon. LOL

Why don't you give me a "confused" icon and let see see if my 84 becomes an 85

I like the more direct route to be honest. I don't like these icons replacing words in line. Freaked my Mrs out last month as I never noticed the whassup icon is a black man icon saying it. Cracked me up and I used it instead of the word. My Mrs then had a heart to heart with me that night wanting the truth "you never use the emoticons how come you use today?" Cracked me up too.

I occasionally use the Like icon, rarely any of the others; I mainly use it when I want to express agreement, but don't want to clutter the thread up with unnecessary replies that don't add any content.

Can't please them all. The confused one comes from the same group of people who have trouble understanding issues.

The emotion options are there to keep posters from thinking they are more interesting than they really are

If the post is boring dribble= more emoticons will appear.

If the post provides merit or entertainment, comments seem to arise like a phoenix from the ashes.

No reason to eliminate the emoticons, they provide a lazy reply with minimal effort.  Not so different than my classmates.

These days members as too scared to comment.....But they read instead. The icons are there to let you know there is someone in the background, reading what you post....
