Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has brushed aside criticism that the presence of soldiers in rural areas under the Thai Niyom Yangyuen development programme was intended to canvass for votes from the grassroot people to pave way for the political future of the incumbent regime.

He reiterated on Wednesday (March 7) that the military personnel’s primary job was to reach out to the rural people to listen to their problems and their needs which would be compiled for submission to the next government so remedial measures or projects can be tailor-made to resolve the problems and to address the needs.

Citing an update report from the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc), the deputy prime minister said that military personnel had already covered 50 percent of 7,463 tambons  and 81,064 villages they were to visit to meet with the people.

Also I was told on good authority a few weeks back that soldiers were visiting local villages and conducting 2-3 day "Dad's Army" type training courses using wooden toy guns. I understand some small payment was given to the participants.

A bonanza for the local stores which are probably owned by the village leaders.

I think this is what is locally called the Blue Flag scheme in my area. Participating shops have a blue banner out front.

One of my wife's businesses received an offer to participate in the scheme. One of each type shop per Umphur is accepted for the scheme. Food and medicine can be bought with 300 baht cards. The shops offered in our Umphur were the closest ones to the local GSB bank. The shops are provided with an ATM type reader to process the transactions.

She turned the offer down as she didn't feel is was financially viable for her.

Think how good it would be if theese people, and all other upcoming parties understand that everything they do that people recieve as something positive is good commercial, and the opposite bad commercial. We always here a denial of that fact. They just don´t look so smart in the light of day, when they do not understand a simple fact like that. Are thoose really the people the citizens want as leaders of the country?

When the Toad Croaks...this guy does more damage to the credibility of anything he touches. The best thing for anyone associated with him is to buy him a watch as an incentive to shut up and just hop away.
