Is there an alternative to physically reporting one's address to the office in Promenade.  Email or post possibly?  Any one know.

TM30 can be reported in person at building 3 at the old/new immigration offices near the airport,It's an alternative or are you referring to TM28 change of address or maybe 90 day reporting which can be done by mail and sometimes online.?

Presuming you're talking about the requirement to report your address every 90 days while you're continually within Thailand, you can do it online (there's a pinned topic on this and would note it doesn't seem to work for everyone), by mail (see pinned topic - https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/557382-90-day-report-procedures/), or do it in person.

No I am referring to the requirement to re-affirm my address when I return to Thailand having left or even when I leave my normal residence for a day.

Hotels and guest houses make a daily return of their occupants but even if I go to eg Mae Chaem for the night, in theory I must inform the Immigration Police.  This particular nonsense is a pain.  Can I also do this online or by mail?

Most agree the only time you must update your TM30 is if you leave the country and return... traveling and staying elsewhere in country for short periods does not require an update... Updating does not require any form - just go to Immigration and ask them to update your new departure card number within 24hrs of returning to Thailand...

Confusion reigns when it's unclear what you're talking about.  It's now obvious you're talking only about the TM30 issue.

You currently are required in Chiangmai to only update upon your re-entry into the country from outside of Thailand.  If you're returning to the same address, you can currently update at either Promenada Immigration or at Building 3 (old immigration site) and, as Sfokevin mentions, you only need to tell them you want to update your TM30 and present them with your passport (which has the TM30 Notice of Receipt in it).  They'll play with their computer for a couple of minutes and then re-date/stamp your TM30 Notice of Receipt (or give you a new Notice of Receipt if your current one is full of stamps or too worn).  As an individual, you cannot do this online (your condo office might have that ability).  And you can't do it by mail.  According to the statute, you're supposed to update within 24 hours of returning; however, more than one Immigration officer has said that updating within 4-5 days of returning is adequate (and I've done it 2-4 days after returning without a problem).

If, after re-entering the country, you're returning to a new address, then a new TM30 has to be filed for that new address.

There are other TM30 threads that likely will answer any other questions you may have about this issue.

Some of you are close but the current answer from Chiang Mai [Promenada] is that they are not too bothered about temporary movements in Thailand for me who has been here 11 years.  Also as my wife, who is my house owner, is out of the country when I return from a trip to Indonesia, there is no problem in waiting the additional 10 days until she returns.  In other words RELAX guys, at least for the moment everyone is chilled.

If it is the TM30 you are referring to and you are already registered by the housemaster ( your wife I guess) then you need to report to immigration on your return form overseas, not whilst traveling in country.

First report needs to be within 24 hours of change of address and return to Thailand unless it falls over a weekend or holiday. Subsequent reports are given a little leeway but 10 days would be pushing it but your choice, there is no reason to wait for your wife if you are already registered.

I realise many people have been told different information when enquiring about this but FWIW I have been told by the agency that deals with my 90 day reports (I have Thailand elite visa but I am subject to 90 day reports and TM30 also) that it is not necessary to update TM30 even if you leave the country, as long as you return to the same address you have previously registered. I have taken many trips outside and also inside Thailand (staying in hotels of course) and have so far had no issues when sending my passport for 90 day reports. I have been doing this for over 2 years now after first submitting my TM30 (and paying fine).

Based on the reports I've heard and read, CM Immigration currently is not bothering with TM30 compliance (either original filing or updating) in association with what we call the 90-day address (TM 47) reporting; however, contrary to what your visa agent told (or misstated) to you, enforcement (including fines) has been occurring when you go for an extension.....at least for a fair number of people.

[Given that BKK is appended to your screen name, I'd note that what all/most are commenting about in this thread relates only to what is happening at CM Immigration.]

My experiences are all with CM immigration sorry if this wasn’t clear.
