BANGKOK, 30th March 2018 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has chaired a meeting with the rice policy and management committee, urging it to adhere to the government's rice stockpile management policy.

Gen Prayut thanked the committee for smoothly executing its policies and reminded it to strictly adhere to the government's plan of ensuring that the sales of its rice stockpiles are in accordance with true market demand.

The government currently retains 2 million tons of rice in its stockpile, divided into 40,000 tons suitable for human consumption, 1.5 million tons for animal feed, and 500,000 tons that are non-consumable. The Department of Foreign Trade plans to release the stockpile into the industrial sector to cut down on its storage costs of 120-130 million baht per month.

120-130 million per month for storage.....!!Who owns these storage warehouses...?

I know PT pollies and mates started many new storage sheds when rice was like gold....and made a killing...so maybe they're still making it.

So there trying to manipulate prices again, hasn't this been tried before?

Yes.

Following Yingluck's rice pledge scheme, PM Prayut created the rice mortgage scheme, then followed with the granary-pledging scheme. Even Democrat leader Abhisit warned caution with the schemes, recommending instead a price insurance policy wherein farmers will get a profit commensurate with their investment and the government isn't involved managing rice stock.

I remember I read it years ago. At that time we got elected PMs though.

Wasn't it this Prayut who toppled the former PM because of this problem?

And who is so brave now to push him off his thrown now?
