Can anyone help me without too much sarcasm?

I wish to buy an expensive car and keep ultimate ownership of it. Is there a way of putting my Thai partner's name on it but retain financial control should anything go wrong?

Can a new car be co owned?

I am not saying I do not trust my partner but if anything happened to her it could go to her family. We are not married.

Can a simple Will be used leaving it to me in event of her death?

Would appreciate all serious comments and advice.

Why not just buy it in your name?

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Are you purchasing the car outright? If so, you can own the car in your name.

If you are purchasing the car yourself, with your own finance, the finance can be in your name (if you meet the criteria).

If you are using your partner as a proxy to finance a car, the finance will be in your partner's name (if your partner meets the criteria).

Not knowing your interpretation of expensive is, anything is doable

First of all it may depend on your Visa

2 nd you will have to put at least 50 % down

You can have it in your name depending on above & have your GF as Guarentor (actually that may be a problem since your not married)

This is what I did

I went to Toyota & said I will have that 860,000 car

I said I will put half down

You put it in my name or it will not happen (they kept saying it would be easier in your wifes name )

I was on a "O" ME Visa

I had to get a few COR's

Bank statements for 6 mths

Proof of my earnings (Group Cert )

My wife was Guarentor (had no job or proof of earnings )

& of course they wanted auto bank deductions

I would pay cash for the car. Can it have dual ownership?

Most probably not

Just put it in your name as the family may be able to fight for it since it was aquired outside of marriage if in GF name

& then again what happens if you go first - since she is just a GF she will not be automatically entitled to the car unless no doubt in your Thai Will

It's simple then.... Paying Cash you can own the car outright.

On any Visa, or a Visa exempt stamp you can own the Car.

You need an Affirmation of Residence (from your embassy), a Work Permit, or a letter of Residence from Immigration (if you have done a 90-day report).

Unless you have another reason you wish to 'share' ownership of your vehicle there is no reason at all why you cannot have full ownership which is a very simple process.

No need for any of this to get a COR in Korat

OK... If 'Rob of Rayong' is now actually 'Rob of Korat' and made the move without changing his

ThaiVisa name, how would he go about obtaining a COR (Certificate of Residence) without going to Immigration?

I know of one method which includes you being on the 'house book'... but in that case, you may not need it as you already have proof of residence (of this I'm not sure).

Ok I should of been clearer

I was just stating a point that to get a COR in korat from Immigration you do not need proof of 90 day reporting

I was just being silly (should have added an emoticon)...

It's interesting to know that you do not need to have made a 90-day report to obtain a Certificate of Residence from the Korat Immigration office.

It would certainly have been cheaper for me. Unfortunately, as I travel in and out too much I rarely if ever need to make a 90-day report and as such Chaeng Wattana Immigration Office has been unable to provide me with a Certificate of Residence.

That said, I'm not sure how accurate the information is (or if it's accurate at all) I have read somewhere recently that Chaeng Wattana Immigration Office is no longer providing the Certificate or Residence document (this has not been verified).

Out of curiosity: Could you have a Visa Exempt Stamp (or a Tourist Visa) in your passport and still obtain a COR from Korat Immigration?
