Marriage

Featured Replies

Hi, I have it my head that to marry my Thai girlfriend I have to prove I am not already married in the UK. Is this correct. If so how. Thanks.

Yes, you have to swear an affirmation at your Embassy that you're free to marry, if you've been married before you need to provide evidence of your divorce or your wife's passing, get the affirmation translated into Thai and get the translation certified as correct at the MFA.

Ok thanks. Is there still a British embassy in Bangkok. Can this be done through a visa agent to save the hassle of Bangkok. I have never been married.

You have to go to the Embassy, and yes there still is an Embassy and there still will be when the sale of the current site goes through, as you have to swear your affirmation in the presence of a Consular Officer, it's easy to arrange online, though some agents will get you an early appointment.

There are a number of agents in the vicinity who will get your affirmation translated and signed off, some will even offer to take you a friendly Amphur who would short cut the procedure, all at a price.
