Pattaya nursery ordered shut after nanny gives 10 month old child a beating

 

 

A nursery in Pattaya has been ordered shut until further notice after a clip on Facebook showed a ten month old child being beaten by a nanny.

Bang Lamung District chief Naris Niramaiwong was with the police and other agencies Thursday at the Ban Un Lak nursery in Soi Chaiyaporn Withee in Bang Lamung.

The establishment was found not to be suitable for caring for children and does not even have a license.

Owner Rosarin Rihat, 38, faces a month in jail and or a 10,000 baht fine.

The nanny has been arrested and charges will follow based on the injuries to the child called Nong Poom. 

Rosarin apologized for what has happened and said the 30 parents of children at the nursery would be informed when they are opening again.

The grandmother of Poom, Supita Makenphong, 51, told 77Jowo that she wants the place closed down for good.

Her and the boy's mother, Phatritha Makenphong, 25, don't want financial restitution for what happened to Poom. They want to see a prosecution of the nanny and others concerned in the running of the nursery.

Unusually for such cases the nursery was named. A sign at the nursery says it caters for children aged from 8 months to 4 years and can look after children before and after school too.

Yesterday members of the local Red Cross headed by  Supinya Niramaiwong went to visit Poom in Bang Lamung Hospital and gave 3,000 baht and supplies to his mother to show support. 

The boy is now conscious but rather blurry. Another brain X-Ray indicates no serious damage though he is being kept under observation just in case. Doctors said he is on the mend. 

77Jowo reported that neighbors close to the nursery said that the place was strange. They alleged that the owner handed out beatings and swore at the children creating a bad feeling towards the nursery in the neighborhood. 

They said it had moved there from eleswhere two years ago and they would be glad to see the back of it.

I hope it pushes for betting licensing regulations including a requirement for professional qualifications of owner and staff, and serious monitoring of such establishments, and serious jail time for anybody who touches a child.

education of all forms in Thailand is mainly about greed. What the eyes dont see as long as the cash register is clicking until someone videos the reality.

Where do they find these people who care nothing even for babies?  It is really shocking!  Even more shocking is the complete apathy with any punishment only dolled out with reticence if there is a media storm against it or with the utmost enthusiasm if the accusation is against a foreigner.  Thais can do no wrong almost but woe betides any foreigner who drops a fag end!

perhaps I will never understand this part of TVness, posting without bothering to read the article, just looking at the picture and drawing completely false conclusions. How is "all is well" when the nursery is ordered shut and

Reality is, right or wrong, many folks would be frightened to get involved in any way. Many folks are frightened of the police and fear that talking to the police will entangle them in some negative way.

 

Again, right or wrong, there's the strong attitude of don't cause confrontations.

 

The end result in this case, toddlers being abused and manhandled in a totally inappropriate way.

 

These places need licenses to operate, how come the appropriate government office does not automatically and continuously conduct searches to find these places and check their licenses, check the qualifications of the staff, is the premises clean, is the food handled hygienically, sufficient, right nutritious content etc., etc?  In fact I wonder if the places that do have licenses are ever inspected, without prior warning? 

 

I wonder how long this place has been operating?

Good idea for the parents to see prosecution rather than money. She’s probably lucky the parents didn’t toss the nanny over a ledge.

It's the "not my business" syndrome here. Along with being wary of the defamation laws and police apathy.

 

No one wants to upset the wrong people so they mind their own business. Sad.

At least they do something to stop it or we wouldnt be reading about it. Thais do care about their kids even if it sometimes doesnt look like it.
