WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump, who has feuded with several media personalities and organizations, will not attend the White House Correspondents' Association annual black-tie dinner for the second straight year, the president of the group said on Friday.

Last year, Trump was the first U.S. president to skip the event in 36 years. Most officials in his administration also snubbed the dinner.

"The White House has informed us that the president does not plan to participate in this year's dinner but that he will actively encourage members of the executive branch to attend and join us as we celebrate the First Amendment," Margaret Talev, the president of the White House Correspondents' Association, said.

The First Amendment is the section of the U.S. Constitution that mentions freedom of the press.

Talev, a correspondent for Bloomberg, said White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders would represent the Trump administration at the April 28 dinner.

Trump had said in an interview aired on Friday on New York radio station 77 WABC that he probably would not attend the dinner, which normally features big names from the worlds of politics and entertainment as guests of media organizations.

Trump had attended the dinner before becoming president, notably in 2011, when former U.S. President Barack Obama publicly ribbed Trump about questioning whether Obama was born in the United States. Obama was born in Hawaii.

But in 2017, Trump, who frequently complains about media coverage of his administration, said he would sit out the event, adding that reporters had treated him unfairly. He said at the time that he would "absolutely" attend this year.

Reporters for The New York Times and CNN, along with news website Politico and Reuters, were granted awards by the White House Correspondents' Association this year.

With "trump" keep your expectations very low and starting there, expect to be disappointed.

It's not like he doesn't have the time. He spends more time watching Fox "News" and golfing at his properties than actually working as president.

QUOTE:

Donald Trump's divisive decision to skip opening day

...

From the divisive days of the Civil War to the distressing moments following Sept. 11, 2001, presidents have used baseball to transcend red and blue partisanship, at least for an afternoon. Even with threats of protests and boos by Washington baseball fans, by eschewing the ritual of throwing out the first pitch today, Trump has missed a chance to join a presidential tradition. Ultimately, he has made a political calculation to dismiss a ritual that won't promote his political interests or cater to his base.

Good for President Trump - the leftist media are shills for the democratic party and their continual bashing is stale news.

I think Alec Baldwin should go as PT. It would be a total meltdown 555

Look, we spend all of our time criticising Trump but let's take a second to reflect on the good things he has done for America.......  OK I can't think of any either so lets get back to saying it like it is, he is a pathetic moron!
Perhaps the trains are running on time? Nah. Probably not.

LOL so true it would be meltdown, I've always felt it was a silly event, they might just as well turn it into a complete farce. IF the Dems win in 2024 they can send their champagne socialist president.

Well, one of his worst critics and a spokesperson for globalists thinks he's racked up some wins:

He is correct in that it is a strategy that comes with some peril, but the US has given so much away we're going to get some small wins no matter what.  Trump is inclined to link various issues we may have with a given country. It's a strategy that hasn't been used since Nixon. It enables a country to win big or lose big instead of losing in varying degrees every single time as has been our recent history.

But surely by 2024 the political landscape will have been transformed so much for the better that the notion of a Democrat winning is preposterous?

That's not the way it works. Everytime we settle for least worst we get someone worse the next time. Each terrible choice gives license to the next contender to be even worse. Democrats seriously giving consideration to running Willie Brown's mistress who slept her way into politics. You couldn't make it up!

Are your referring to "Willie Brown" as in the former mayor of San Francisco, California?

He kept, to some extent, corruption in check.      He was reasonably   careful to  think about the greatest good for the greatest number even if it was outside the law.

Not as bad is always better than more bad. Otherwise people will continue to throw away their votes by either not voting or voting for hopeless cases like Jill Stein. Stimulating people to do that was a prime part of the "trump" and Putin playback. So we ended up with a con man demagogue. Good work!
