A couple more pics i forgot..the tree looks in good health [folliage wise] but looking at the small root system i'd say it was only a matter of time. Don't know if anyone was hurt, if not was very lucky as quite a large tree [8-10 metres}guestimate. Probably see the remaining few that also grow half on the footpath/road given the axe before they fall.

Nope...any way to me it was just a bit unusual because today there wasn't a major weather event that i know of,that normally occurs to fell a tree of this size.

Looks like the roots rotted. It probably didn't like being paved over for the past decade or more.

Is that the tree that blocked half the lane? If so then good. It was dangerous as it had cars crossing into the other lane. There has been many spills in the past right here.

It is the northernmost one of  a few that do cause a hiccup for road users. Just north of Club Meds private road crossing.

I was there this morning and they had a team of 9-10 workers with good intentions and one rather blunt chainsaw...the guy spent 5 minutes cutting through a small root ... loaded up the truck with folliage and small offcuts and departed about 11am,never to return..hillarious.

Though  i must admit, that tree is larger than i first thought..the girth must be at least 3 metres and height more like 12-15,,Big crane and big sharp chainsaw needed to clear it.
