I am part of a small group of latin dancers in Chiang Mai who enjoy helping a local orphanage with around 700 abandoned (mainly hill tribe) kids aged from 2 to 18. A top international dance teacher has offered to fly into town and do as many workshops and lessons as we can arrange. All of the money raised from the events will be spent wisely at the orphanage.

We are organizing two events. One on Friday the 14th and the other on Saturday the 5th of May (2018). Friday is already arranged and it will be at 'The Canteen' tapas restaurant in the old town. Please come along and shuffle your feet if you like to dance :giggle:

We haven't yet found a venue for Saturday the 5th of May and this is where I need your help or suggestions. We are looking for a hotel or similar that would be willing to offer their function room or pool terrace at a discount or even for free for a good cause. I'm guessing there will be 20 to 50+ people attending.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is this teacher paying for their own travel and lodging expenses, and teaching without compensation ?

Oops - It's Friday the 4th of May not the 14th (typing error - or old age).

I'm not sure what relevance the 'Orphanage tourism' thread has to this. Although tourists are obviously welcome to join our dance workshops, the events are aimed mainly at the latin dance community who live and work in Chiang Mai. They are all familiar with the orphange at Wat Don Chan temple and anyone not comfortable supporting the events will not attend.

I started out by typing answers to those questions and decided not to get sucked in.

Please keep in mind that this is not an advertising platform but a forum. Therefore there will be questions and comments about any events posted. It is up to the OP whether he answers or not of course.

Yep. Slipped up there by being friendly and putting out an open invitation to come and have a dance. That little mistake turned this thread into an advert. Warning noted.

Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned the name of the orphanage either. That's two mistakes in a single thread.

Let me speak to my friends to confirm who paid for the teacher's flight, confirm where he is staying, how much it costs per night, find out how much he is getting paid, check whether he is breaking any income tax laws in his country of residence, or breaking any laws of Thailand and I'll update the thread.

I hope the 'internationally known' has a work permit. I hope your group has government approval to be raising funds! Strange, most people that belong to 'groups' say what the group's name is and where they meet and the name of the orphanage they are going to help....your postings are dubious at the least.

The OP states the orphanage as Wat Don Chan, ...
