Daniel Lee McGee, known online as Danny Mac, in a video posted Tuesday in which he details his encounter with taxi driver Thongkham Srakaew.

BANGKOK — It’s an age-old tale: Boy lands at airport, boy meets taxi, taxi rips off boy.

But after hearing both disputed sides of a farang’s fateful airport taxi ride – and watching part of it on video millions of times – Thai netizens were overwhelmingly siding with the customer Thursday.

"...“I never had a bad track record in driving a taxi. But this farang gave me a headache,” Thongkham said while crying. “He went public and is destroying the image of me, my family, my wife and kids.”..."

Do you believe this liar?

He is a thief. He was trying to rip off a 'Farang' and it failed.

And now he is crying like a little girl. Boo Hoo.

Pathetic.

I’ve found in life that the best way to not have people speak badly about you is to be a decent person. Common sense has taught me that doing bad things gives people a bad impression of me. And as my brain has matured into adulthood, I’ve realized that I’m responsible for my actions. Life becomes so much easier and better when you realize this.

Danny Mac needs to get a life and a real job, in that order and quit screwing around in Bangkok playing the big fish in a small pond and making people lives miserable. He seems to have taken it upon himself to use his internet status to root and publically destroy the well being of people who have crossed his path -  are you the first person to ever get ripped off by a taxi in Thailand, there's a legal system, available to you, use it if you're not happy with a service you receive. I hope the taxi drivers files a defamation suit against you.

So true! Spot on.

the part i like the best is when the thai taxi driver gets abusive when he determines he can't cheat the farang to the extent he normally does

You are right, he is not the 1st to be ripped off and there is a "legal" system that is useless.. People have come to realise, if you wanna hit a problem hard n fast, get it out on social media...

It's just the way the world is going :)

I wish my work had been those things, it would have been much easier and less stressful. In fact my work for the last fifteen years of my career involved launching mobile telcoms companies in the West and in Asia, a part of that involved launching messaging apps and social media web sites. One of the frequent discussions I would have with different companies is the use and abuse of social media, the need for moderation of social networking web sites and different models to implement those things. That of course was some fifteen years ago when social networking was much less advanced than today. Regardless, the models and potential outcomes still hold true today and the monetisation, privacy and potential for abuse aspects are all now being fully realised.

I dont like to be ripped off and always take it very personal...BUT this guy has to be the biggest idiot ever, he could have stopped this at the Airport or anywhere on route by saying the words STOP THE TAXI NOW; he could even say it in thai:saai:.

He will regret this day in his life as thais have a long memory and if he thinks there will be no Immigration investigation leading from this then his 2 years in thailand have taught him nothing...also good luck with your next visa run & future taxi drivers in BKK.

Come on TAT, this isn’t good enough.

This good taxi story driver you are trying to peddle to counter Danny Mac’s rant really doesn’t cut it.

The wronged taxi driver and the pesky foreigner is just so passé.

The right to rip off non Thais as a defence is no longer going to do in this age of social media.

At the very least, you now need a story about a driver rescuing a kitten from a tree or delivering a child in their cab. You need that cuteness factor.

C’mon people, step up your game.

Calling 1584 or 1197 seem to have worked pretty well judging by all the press reports.

Here, taxi driver try to cheat passenger, fail.

You backward! Taxi driver is criminal, not passenger.

See something, say something, do something.  If you let people run all over you that’s your choice and you enable a rotten system to persist.

It is quite a talent to speak Thai as well as he does and to get so many followers.

He has done media work in Pattaya, so has experience.

Who will his next target be? Either his barber or whoever sold him those specs.

A month ago, I was in Bkk (Banglampu) and had to get a taxi to DM airport.  The driver turned on his meter and was pleasant.  Halfway, he asked if I wanted to pay an added Bt.300 to go on the toll road.  I said 'no thanks.'  Note: it was v. early in the morning, so v. little traffic.   We got all the way to DM for well under Bt.200 !   I tipped him.

Only social media achieves results in Thailand; forget courts or police they are non-existent for the ordinary citizen.

Come on you guys, you don't like a younger man speaking the language well and making money from Youtube?

Ok no problem.

Many people get conned by taxi drivers each and everyday and many people will not even know.

A driver comes along and decides to rip off his next customer?

Fail!!!He speaks the language and decides to beat the guy at his own game!!

Well done!!!

He's now in a real danger of a defamation lawsuit as it seems the only proof he has is the admission from the taxi driver that he asked Danny for a fixed price instead of meter. Danny's clip only captures the very last part of the conversation so it's his word against the taxi driver in regards to the other allegations (I think Danny's telling the truth but what will the court say?). He's got thousands of followers so he must have known that this would cause a stir on social media. Now he may face years of legal battles and a possible black listing from Thailand!

Q: Did the cabby do wrong?...A: Yes

Q: Would the available legal system have the required response?...A: No

Q: Is the cabby now going to be more wary of his future actions?... A: Yes

i can speak thai. most of my friends who are expats can, some better than others. never really seen it as a talent if i'm honest. you just learn it or pick it up. that's kind of like saying any person who has a trade or a degree is talented because they learnt something. we must have different views on talent. i looked at some of this guys videos and he's just a tool and the reason he hardly has any you tube hits is probably for that reason. now my mate nate is frickin michael jackson or some shit if you think this guy is talented

And where is the poor taxi driver going to get the money to do that?

In real life only the rich do that.

Simoh1490..Undoubtedly, you are utterly jealous of the person you stupidly wrote about in your comment..
