Mango tree never bears fruit.

Featured Replies

Firstly, let me say that I know nothing about gardening.

I have a mango tree just outside my apartment. It was planted about nine years ago. It's quite big now, but in all that time, I have only ever seen it bear fruit once.

Any ideas on why this might be? Or what might be needed to make it fruit? Other Mango trees nearby seem to bear fruit regularly.

TIA

Could be many reasons.

Disease, lack of nutrients, lack or excess water, too much shade from a tall building.  etc.

It does get the morning sun until about 10am, but the building shades it for much of the afternoon, so you could be right.

Thanks.

you are not alone !  I have a ten years old healthy mang tree ( from good orchid ) and it rarely bear fruit !

as jak said, those are main reasons !

- disease, you may able to see it on the leaf and on the trunk

- lack of nutrients, mango tree needs a lot of nutrients

- lack or excess of water, this is very tricky; just learn by end of the year we stop watering the mango tree for 3 months, otherwise leaf only no flower

- sun, sun, sun

well, after the hot season, you may trim the top part of the tree that more light into the main trunks.

I end up buying mango in the market :-(
