An arrest warrant has been issued for the owner of a Hat Yai dormitory accused of attacking an 18-year-old student with a stun gun and raping her.

The alleged assault in the girl’s rented room on April 11 led to Songkhla provincial court issuing the warrant on Friday.

The suspect, who has not been named but is in his 40s, is sought on charges of assault and rape, Hat Yai police superintendent Pol Colonel Kittichai Sangthaworn said.

The suspect had been summonsed and has promised to speak to investigators.

The teenager from Satun had rented the dormitory room with a friend so they could take lessons with a tutor during school break in preparation for university entrance exams.

The victim was alone at 10am on April 11 when the accused came by, ostensibly to fix the toilet.

Her family filed a police complaint soon after. On Thursday they provided police with additional information and sought the news media’s help in bringing the assailant to justice.
