PHUKET: Police yesterday began their investigation into the complaints of cars being scratched in the multi-storey car park at Phuket International Airport over what appears to be a vindictive spat over parking in a “self-declared VIP” parking spot.

The issue came to light over the weekend when Facebook user “Jingabell Thunramon” on Saturday (April 21) posted photos online showing the parking spot and the damage done to her friend’s car, which was parked on the fifth floor of the car park, near the pedestrian bridge to the International Terminal.

A team of Sakoo Police officers now tasked with investigating the complaints inspected the scene yesterday (April 23), led by no less than Sakoo Police Deputy Chief Lt Col Uramporn Kundetsamrit and Lt Col Tatit Noorit together with Lt Col Purimpat Tanapansiri.

Some wannabe hi so is upset that some mere peon dared to park in his spot.

Your powers of deduction are amazing- more likely to be a taxi or minibus thinking it rules the car park as well as street parking.

My bet is on the car hire guys which always occupy this level.

Take a short cut and give the security guy there 500 baht and he will know this "vip"scratcher.

I lived in Phuket for four years and my car was scratched by locals more times than I care to remember, at least twenty, it's a Phuket pastime for many. The problem is, everyone seems to have what they consider to be their own parking areas, not just spaces but whole areas and if as a farang or a person outside of the group you should happen to park there, your vehicle will get keyed. In Patong on Beach road it's the taxi guys that are responsible and they are very covert about it. I used to pick up my wife from work and I learned never to go more than twenty feet from my car, even then it still got keyed on several occasions and they must have been quietly laughing at me watching me try and figure out who was responsible.
