I hate this news. The Chinese are slowly taking over our condo complex. There are certain times we will not visit our local 7-Eleven due to the hordes of Chinese tourists running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They spit, smoke, and are a nuissance.  Why have they been rolled out the red carpet to dwell here?  Are there that many rich Chinese merchants? What's wrong with staying in Hong Kong? Grrrrrrr...

Wait till they start crapping on your doorstep. :w00t:

What a shame..... Thailand needs more Chinese tourists like a hole in the head.

The boss does not see that Alibaba will do what Alibaba wants to do to make more money for themselves at the cost of destroying what little  is worth visiting in Thailand ,,,, The Almighty $$$$$$$ rules

Myself and wife like break from home  2/3 hour drive to a nice beach hotel we know. When my wife calls to book they will give us dates when they have a break from chinese tour groups. They do understand why we like to be their when it's eu tourists and not chinese.

news i cringe at; i live on the edge of one of the most well-known tourist areas in thailand; Already we have marked off no-go areas on our normal living areas due to the chinese invaders

let me guess, Chiang Mai, if so I used to live there and loved the place, I moved to Hua Hin after 3 yrs.

I was back a few months ago and went to the Sunday market street by Thapai Gate, as soon as I got there I turned away as the Chinese were entering the street in droves and walking over the top of anything in there path.

What a shame I loved that relaxing Sunday stroll around.

Chiang Mai has changed a lot, not the same anymore, sadly the bus loads of Chinese are turning up in Hua Hin, storming into restaurants , dumping butts everywhere and leave with crap littered all over the tables.

I know the behaviour of these corrupt tours run by crooked tour operators, as I used to drive tours and was a first hand observer of the shocking way they act.

Many of my European friends are now bypassing Thailand, as it's just become a melting pot of greed, catering for their new found Chinese friends, the Thai-ness has long gone.

The allure of new money, has taken the country from being a beautiful paradise, to one of pure commercialism, and in the process has clogged the whole system.

The costs also have increased to an unjustifiable levels, which makes Thailand very expensive in comparison to other countries in South-East Asia.

I understand. But where are they going to go? Laos and Cambodia are even more under the Chinese thumb. Beautiful, pristine Laos is being strip-mined.  And Myanmar is still stuck with China. That leaves Vietnam, Philippines, and Malaysia. Malaysia is a tender box, just waiting for ethnic conflict b/w Chinese and Malays to erupt again someday. Philippines are Mexico-East, an almost failed state succumbing to crime and irrational leaders. So, Vietnam it is, I guess, although Vietnam is becoming very expensive.

I just spent 4 days in Bangkok in a 4 star hotel with the wife. Overrun with Chinese tourists....big buses etc. Very nice and polite people without exception. Many  (not all)spoke conversational English as did the French and Italians too. The Indian couples seemed nice too.

So long as they keep to the existing main tourist areas, it will just make them more crowded.  Perhaps the novelty will wear off in a few years and they will decide it is not worth the trip, they don't plan on learning to speak Thai or want to stay here aside from the few entrepreneurial mostly young.  There is a lot to see in China still and that is where they know how to really make money.

I can't really blame Jack Ma and/or the Chinese; when a country like Thailand offers up the entire e-commerce industry for sale, I'd buy it too if I had the cash.

Thailand, when you sell the digital infrastructure of your economy, you are also selling your actual economy. It'll take a few years before the entire purchase/take over is complete, but it is almost impossible to reverse once it really begins.

I hope Prayut and his cronies enjoy their thirty pieces...

And I strongly suggest that Thai kids be given crash courses in Mandarin; they'll need to be able to talk with their overlords.

It is so sad to see a once fine country go down this path, but I guess the lessons of Cambodia and Burma have to be learned all over again...

as far as I know from my friends at Phuket and that area. Chinese have package tours, they maximum have one dinner out. They do not like to pay to the local tourist agencies or so. I think Thais should  pay more efforts to cope with the new tourist challenge.

What is wrong in this? There is a good portion of the population speaking Chinese.

I think it is part of the national curriculum.

Makes sense really, when you consider that China is by far the largest and most influential country in the region.

Much the same idea as British children learning French and/or German.

I wish them good luck.

Thailand deserves what it sows.

As does every nation in the world that we are totally destroying.

We can't stop the total destruction that is coming due to our own greed for the better life, whatever that is.

Technology and scientific advances won't fix it, don't put your faith in them. It might be a bang or it might be a whimper but it's on the cards.

Thailand is near the head of the pack.
