gearbox
Does anyone have any pointers or contacts how to approach this? It looks like it is all been done by the word of mouth in Samui. A Craiglist ad wasn't really helpful as we got replies only from a few Filipinos who are in Bangkok on tourist visas.
khunPer
I see many restaurants put a sign on the window/wall that staff is need, either in Thai, or in English (need English speaking staff), or both. A sign can also improve word-of-moth (amazing what Thais see, and know, just from passing something). Others, mainly the larger restaurants, and hotels and resorts, use Samui Cable TV's text adds for staff wanted. There are many migrant workers in restaurant business, mainly from Burma, often because of both English skills and not enough interest from Thais. You (or rather a Thai business owner/administrator) can easily obtain a 2-year Work Permit for migrants from neighboring countries, and using an agent may help a lot in paperwork. The restauranteurs I know all bitch about retaining good staff that they happen to find and usually go the Burmese route for both their English skills and longevity. gearbox
Thanks everyone for your input. We managed to find people by word of mouth and ads outside the restaurant. Nothing else worked.
