Popular Post cmtg1
It's dull as dishwater now. The old posters seem to have fled to face book leaving boring same same people to argue over why is 3BB so bad and equally boring topics. Face book seems to offer more precise areas to find answers to your questions with a minimal of cute answers. Too bad really. I think this entire Thai Visa shot itself in the foot

Popular Post simoh1490
The topics are all repetitive and somewhat stale, newer younger posters ask their question and then leave, older posters aren't interested in the staleness so they don't come in the first place. There was a decent discussion about pollution that was interesting but the imposed boundaries of that debate were too narrow so it died. There's also a seemingly unfettered level of trollism taking place currently that applies across the board, posters openly declaring how much they like trolling others and people with seriously bad attitudes that go unchecked, those things are a huge turn off, case in point, post number 2 above this one which serves no purpose other than to annoy people! I never thought I'd say it but I think I'm actually in favour of heavier moderation, we may have gone too far the other way now and that's why the activity volume is so low. Popular Post Thailand
Maybe it's also because many people are now Internet/ forums savvy and can search for an answer to their questions from the hundreds of threads on the forums as a whole without having to make a post or even joining the forum and subsequently get derided by the many trolls?
ezzra
It's a FORUM for god sake, postres comes and go, no obligation here, topics comes and go, all up the current mood of the economy and politics politics situation, the requirement are to just behave yourself, and the essence of a forum is that you get a mix of all kinds of people on it, some we like some we don't, as for morerations, i think it's good enough the way it is, you should see other forums where where almost any posting is allowed..... 1
brewsterbudgen
Maybe it's just something about Chiang Mai? The other local forums are great fun, especially the Pattaya one!Sent from my SM-G930F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Sent from my SM-G930F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app Ten or fifteen years ago the forum seemed to comprise much larger numbers of expats, today there's a lot of transients and wannabees who know absolutely everything about Thailand. The expats had more interest in keeping the forum alive and interesting, many from the current mix seem to regard it as a place to ridicule residents and bash Thai's, God but that gets old fast.
Popular Post meatboy
I too have found big changes on here, toooooooooooo many interventions [adverts] have been putting me off. it does seem the concerns of every day life we used to discus are very few if not any. also I have found that some of the mods.have been letting newbies get away with most, that shouldn't be allowed.
naboo
When the mod tywais left (reason never given), ThaiVisa lost both an excellent mod and poster. That, combined with issues with ads, a changing demographic in the Chiang Mai community and the rise of Facebook groups, has left this place dry.

BEVUP
Well I still use the Forum as it does supply some good knowledge & keeps people up to date BUT * People come & ask for info & provide it, but from what I see you only need to get involved with the first 2 pages as it then turns into an argument fest * Or if their not arguing, they turn it into a private conversation, so as mentioned no real need to go any further then the 2 pages. That's if unless they have become Rocket Scientists, in the planning of some basic build information that was asked about * Alot of Newbies (maybe Trolls ) with first post that never come back to their post after it ends up 10 pgs long * OH! I just read a post that mentioned wannabees & ect - of course your going to get all that as it is a international Forum. But the bit mentioned about ONLY fulltime Expats being of any help/ect is another reason it turns out like the above Edited May 6, 2018 by BEVUP

None of our business why a mod/member moves on, they have a life beyond TVF the same as all of us.. For sure on line media has moved on over the last decade, same as television now having a zillion channels, just progress where some may feel the pinch. TVF is a commercial business, not a tin pot forum using third parties, in business to make money and provide chat space that costs you nothing....

I also found that facebook has taken over, apart from our resident health nurse,arjen,wildwilli89,and a few others who are willing to inform us with vital info I am afraid the forum has become a DAMP SQUIB
Popular Post metisdead
Quote interesting take but i believe the the moderators treated us like imbeciles and children and that is the reason for such a low turnout. This certainly is not a mature method in which to make a complaint about how things have transpired in the Chiang Mai forum. 9) You will not post inflammatory messages on the forum, or attempt to disrupt discussions to upset its participants, or trolling. Trolling can be defined as the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet by posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion. 10) Do not discuss moderation publicly in the open forum; this includes individual actions, and specific or general policies and issues. You may send a PM to a moderator to discuss individual actions or email support (at) thaivisa.com to discuss moderation policy. You will not block contact with moderators or administrators. Doing so will result in suspension. 2 2
