Popular Post Batty
Hello Im hoping to find a realy great home for my 4 year old DDB (4 years, 6 months). His name his Harry, and he is the younger brother (from a later litter) of Woody, our first DDB who died just over 12 months ago. He is an amazing dog with a gentle warm personality - typical of DDB breed - does not have an aggressive bone in his body and actually rarely even barks. If you are looking for a guard dog, this isnt it. This is a very soft well natured dog who wouldn't have the first clue what to do if he found himself in a confrontation, its almost like he has nothing but peace and love genes in him. He does LOOK the part though, so he does a great job of deterring wannabe bad guys just by the look of him. He is muscular, in general good shape (more of that later) and weighs in at 52 kilos. Any unknown guests who arrive always get a 'Harry one bark' as we know it where he will sort of take a bit of a menacing stance and bark once - every time, just once lol - a real deep, loud heavy, single bark. At that point you could walk right past him and he wouldn't care but most people tend to wait until we have put him away at that point. Once you are known (which only takes one visit) he will come over to you looking for some attention. As I said he is in great shape but he does need to be well cared for to stay that way and I should warn you, this is a part time job looking after a dog of this size in a country this warm. Generally speaking he does ok with the heat, in the daytime he just sleep and relaxes and we always make sure there is a fan blowing for him. We dont alow him inside the house, well sometimes as a treat we do but most of the time he is an outside dog. We have a big kennel for him, which he is free to come and go as he pleases and he spends most of his time chilling out on the tiled terrace in front out our door. We walk him twice a day early morning and mid evenings after food and it does not take much to tire him out. Ok so more on his health. He needs taking care of otherwise he wont stay in great shape. He needs a shower with special skin shampoo twice a week as he suffers from a skin allergy, something he has picked up since we brought our new house 10 months ago. His skin is fine, and he has a lovely light red coat with realy soft hair but it will only stay that way if you shower him twice a week with special shampoo. He also has a problem with his knee, thats something that he picked up when he jumped out of my truck as a puppy and landed badly but he is fine with anti inflammatory pills that we give him every day just one pill. No limping, no pain, you would not even know he has an issue with his knee. If you miss a pill for a couple of days his knee starts playing slightly - you will notice he has the slightest of limps (very very slight most people wouldn't notice) but dont miss his pill and there is no limp at all. He needs brushing every day also - otherwise hair shedding will be a problem. Brush him once a day and there is no issue at all. Forget to do it, and his coat wont look too great and you will be sweeping the floor more often. So again, it takes effort to look after this breed. The twice weekly showers which takes a good hour each time because of his size and you realy have to make sure he is bone dry afterwards, to ensure his skin and coat stay healthy. Do a poor job and only half dry him, you will have a mild skin issue in 2 days. The meds are not a problem, its just one pill a day for his knee which relay is no issue at all providing he takes his pill every day. Aside from that we give him multi vits, fish oil. All pretty inexpensive. However, his anti inflam pills are pretty costly and I would insist on paying for those every month. I order from lazada currently and they are 1400 baht for 60 pills. I will just have them sent to you every 60 days. He eats biscuit, no meats (he gets allergy from most meats) with a little tuna oil. Feeding him is easy. Overall he is a lovely dog with a massive personality and this breed truly are very special. If you know nothing about them, read up on google. We hate the idea of letting him go but we moved to a house with no garden and a small drive and its just not ideal for him. We thought it would be ok, but it isnt. He needs a garden or at least a big terrace. I also might be returning to the UK after 15 years full time in Thailand i might have to go back for work related reasons, i might have to come and go a couple months back there, a couple months here, for maybe 2 or 3 years. That leaves just my wife to look after him for most of the time and she adores him - treats him like a baby - but its just one more reason to find him a better sized home with people who have more time to take care of him. I wouldn't be suprised if i get no volunteers here as this dog is not for everyone. This isnt a poodle and he does need looking after but to me thats always been part of the fun. In that way, its almost like taking care of a horse lol. And Ill need to come and take a look at your set up just to make sure you are nice people and have room for him. Im not just going to give him away to the first person that asks - you need to be the right kind of people in my eyes as essentially I am giving away a son here, so I need to check you out and make sure you are right, if that makes sense. One final thing - you are not looking at a long life here. Most DDB's live until around 7 or 8, they have a similar age as a bulldog. He is already 4 and a half so you are probably only looking at a few more years. Maybe not though - its not uncommon for DDB's to hit double digits. There are a few negatives but they are greatly outweighed by the positives. This is an amazing, special breed of dog with such a loving, kind personality and you will enjoy having him. But it does take effort, as mentioned already a few times. Some pictured attached of Harry with his older Brother. Harry is the slightly smaller of the two (Woody was 60 kilos, harry 52) Any questions, fire away.

trawler
Some photos of our place.Where are you located??? I think with the Fila as she is old no problem,I suspect the terrier will try to assert some macho bits but as Harry is large it should not come to anything. Both dogs are generally very good with people and were used to having 3 other dogs around them.I like big dogs and am used to them. Anyway will be back home on Thursday so if you have WhatsApp or Line let me know how to contact you. Cheers
