I received one of those FWDFWD email things and this one caught my eye. Does anyone have a clue where this place is?

At first it may seem to be ice but if you look closely there are lots of people looking very rosy. I think it is some kind of mineral deposit from hot springs.

I hope I have uploaded the photos properly.

I am not sure of the exact location, but there is a place in the US called Mammoth Hot Springs that looks something like this. In the corner of one of the pictures theres an RV--something you don't find it a lot of other places.

Yellowstone National Park also has a similar place, but they don't let people walk on it.

Wow. Hot springs on a terraced hillside in the snow. I think the RV is a tourist bus...Pity. But looks like somewhere farang. Would have said terraced rice paddies in northern China, but no Asians...

Hot springs on a terraced hillside in the snow.

It looks more like limestone.

And I'm very surprised that they are letting people walk on it.

Looks like hydrous gypsum.........

The wife wants to go see snow, both of us dislike the cold, maybe this is the option! :o

its the "cotton castle" limestone pools at pammukale in turkey

Full marks Tax.

:o

Pamukkale (Hierapolis) translates to Cotton Castle. It is one of the most remarkable natural sites with its cotton white plateaus, pale blue waters topping of the shallow pools and gently cascading down the drape-like stalagmites onto the lower levels for over 300 feet. Romans used this well known mineral rich, hot volcanic spring water as a natural spa for its therapeutic powers. The great baths were constructed in the 2nd century and serve as a museum today. Spas are abundant here.

Those are rather misleading pictures. We visited around 15 years ago and the balconies (? better word) are grubby and grey from peoples feet :o . Interesting place though.
