Infact most of the hotels in Saigon bar a few will not allow guests. This has lightened up over the last few years with the growing importance of tourism. And by the way...is the law really so cut and dried as a foreigner cant have sex with a Laos national...or we talking prostitution. Bummer, nobody told me. When I was in Saigon last month the waitress from my local restaurant insisted on coming back to my hotel in the afternoon for a chat. When she walked in with me, she handed her ID papers to the desk as she walked past, they put them in a drawer, not a word was spoken. Almost every day I was approached by local ladies, sitting in September Park reading a book, sitting in Highlands coffee eating a baguette, I was totally amazed that there were so many girls floating around, and that they were so blatant about it. Not to mention the bars were packed with scantily clad women. Did I say, Saigon green beer in a bar 50c for a 450ml bottle. Never been anywhere in the world where I was hit on so often, probably all the women were legit, and it was me being really hansum causing the problem. 2

Fair enough, it is their country, and up to them to make their own laws, but to say anything is only illegal for foreigners and not for their own people is taking the piss. The best thing any normal foreigner can do where Laos is concerned, is go and get your visa, and then get back out as soon as you can. Screw them After 100 years of charming French rule - guillotining for insurrection, babies thrown down wells, floggings for insubordination - then generous US carpet bombing of their rice fields and cluster bombs still killing their kids - you'd think they'd welcome foreigners screwing their women. Strange people... Edited May 12, 2018 by jgarbo 2
Pat in Pattaya
Has someone really just mentioned Savannakhet and Nightlife in the same sentence? Mis-informed doesn't even come close. Being there is the closest you will get in life to dying without actually dying. Enjoy it.

The laws were made to stop Laos becoming a sex tourist destination , they do not want rich people going to Laos for the purpose of paying for sex with poor Laotians . But if they followed Thailands example, there would be a lot less poor Laotians. I am sure that you know what I mean, and not just the paying for sex brigade. I have never paid for sex in Thailand, and married a well educated Thai girl. There is nothing wrong with paying for sex as long as no one is getting hurt, and an awful lot of Thai families have been financially better off because of the sex mongers, though there are also lots of westerners like me who have contributed to the well being of Thai people without paying for sex. Why should any country not become a sex tourist destination? What people do with their bodies is no business of anyone else, as long as it is well within reason.

Its the same as drug control here and elsewhere. Left to their own devices poorer people generally dont know whats good for them. No where is this more pertinent than Thailand. CNXBKKMAN
Nightlife used to last all night everywhere. Patpong used to be full of sex shows. Naked dancers, unusual ways to open a bottle of coke, gross ways to deposit in a glass. Does this stuff still go on? Seems lots of nightlife ends around midnight. So i would say Thailand has changed quite a bit in that respect.
