Sorry to say this is Not the same I have ,so i can remember the smell Vegemite was developed by a chemist looking for a way of disposing the spent yeast from the main brewery in Australia. It is a vegetable product, contains no meat. Less than 1% fat, 6% dietary fibre. Various B group vitamins and folate are added. If we ignore the salt content, Vegemite is actually much better for you than peanut butter fat-wise.

Not sure of the shelf life but should be ok for quite a while.By comparison the small bags in Tesco ,Rimping etc are quite expensive. My Thai wife is making quite a few versions of the Anzac biscuits or cookies as the Yanks would call them

Sorry, Vegimite was developed when Marmite supplies to Australia were disrupted after the second world war. Marmite was "discovered" by a german by chance by a German scientist called Justus Liebig. The Marmite company was formed in 1902. Which one is best depends on which one you grew up with, and there are a number of similar alternatives around the world.

Andrew Dwyer
I saw all three in Rimping Mae Hia Market today and snapped a pic this time (I'm not sure the 'Imported from the USA' label is accurate, though...) Thanks for that.I pay £3.50 in the uk for Bovril , around 150 baht !!, and I also bought Vegemite for £2 , around 85 baht. But , imported items are gonna have a big mark up on them, so , no biggie !Yes, I think the “ imported from the USA” is incorrect, the Vegemite I bought in uk says product of Australia ( as you would expect ) on it !!

Is it taboo for people with high blood pressure?
stuartd1
Simply google! Quote Vegemite per serving (4g) Total calories 8kcal Total fat trace Saturated fat trace Sodium* 0.14g *Equivalent as salt 0.4g Total carbohydrates 0.8g dietary fibre nil Protein 1g Marmite per serving (4g) Total calories 10kcal Total fat trace Saturated fat trace Sodium* 0.2g *Equivalent as salt 0.5g Total carbohydrates 1g dietary fibre 0.1g Protein 1.5g So looking at the facts Marmite is worse for you than Vegemite in terms of the salt, which as we all know in theory should make it tastier. Just one teaspoon contains nearly 10% of your recommended salt allowance!!! Unquote I'm in UK at present and spotted this in a store:- No doubt the Aussies will make one for Vegemite........but with fewer pieces!
ravip
It also seems that the % vary from country to country >>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmite
