Nongprue moves to outsource garbage collection

PATTAYA:--Nonprue is preparing to solicit bids for a private contractor to take over garbage collection in the sub-district.

Public Health and Environment Director Surapon Krimprasert said May 10 that the municipality, which currently collects its own garbage, would hire a private trash hauler to serve Zone 1 of the sub-district as a test to see if it can get out of the garbage business altogether.

Nongprue currently owns 13 garbage trucks, but can only run 11 of them due to equipment and staffing problems. The sub-district’s personnel budget won’t allow it to hire more garbagemen.

So the municipality plans to spend 10 million baht to hire a contractor for a trial run this year and, if successful, hopes to outsource all its garage needs eventually.

Can't afford to hire a couple of extra garbo's but can afford to outsource the whole operation?  This will go as well as outsourcing the road construction on Soi Siam Country Club.

Will they have to budget to clean up the site where the contractors illegally dump the rubbish?

I have this image of someone accepting 10 million baht, and then there being an empty office behind a pile of uncollected garbage.
