I don’t think you understand much about Thailand.

”Their fathers” don’t give a flying fart who provided the money for their lao khao.

Foolish comment. Stop hanging around low class people.

A guy I used to work with and retired about the same time started having marital issues and instead of coming here like I did he shot 2 of his daughters in the head then killed himself as well leaving a third daughter and the wife to deal with the aftermath. I don't know what he was thinking exactly but he obviously felt he had no choice and was trapped. He wasn't. Very sad.

Relevance?

Without the young girls (that wouldn't give him the time of day less spend time with him in usa) it's just another 3rd world country with cheap beer, smokes and food.

Beer isnt cheap though and options are very limited.

It's not a 3rd world country.

He would be even more jovial if he could find a young pretty Thai girl that's rich and want to take care of him. Then this "Another Planet" would become his paradise.

Rich Thais don't mix with poor old farangs.

I think the moral to the story is that life doesn't have to end as you age in your home country. While it is still possible to have a vibrant social life with very attractive females if you have Trump-like cash reserves, for most retires this is not possible in the countries where we came from (I came from the United States). Live your life while you still can, because it will be over soon enough and it is best to enjoy each and every day to the fullest.

This story has a moral? Glad to hear it...

There's a joke about that.

Here's the joke.

Two old guys having a beer outside the bar and there's a soi dog lying in the sun having a good old lick of his b-ll-cks.

One guy says to the other 'I wish I could do that' The other guy replies 'I'm sure if you gave him a biscuit he'd let you'

??

72 and he can still do it? He's an old aged pensioners role model.

Just imagine a handsome, 25 year old with a body like Michael Angelos, David gets the cold shoulder from a 20 year old stunning bar girl When Grandad turns up.

Puts me off the scene. Sloppy seconds after Grandad. Being kissed after Grandad. Urgh!

Why shouldn't he be able to do it at 72?

Life will have it's joke on you when you are 72, and find that people denigrate you just for being old.

Put this down in the 'hater comment" column if you must, but....

1. If someone is prone to depression, is alcohol abuse a good idea?

2. Thais smile a lot. Ron, you have a nice smile, and I strongly encourage you to use it every chance you get, but you might be overdoing it in the folksy chuckling department. Thais usually reserve laughter for things which the listener actually finds humorous or funny and it isn't used so much as conversational punctuation. Excessive chuckling and laughter during normal conversation may actually confuse some Thais who don't understand why you are laughing, possibly causing some to start wondering about your mental health.

Just some thoughts to consider.

I thought the laughs looked a bit hollow. Skulling cheap tequila at age 72 why? Alcohol is a big no no if on anti depressants.

Lots of fun can be had without slamming down drinks in dive bars.

Nah. What is special, was that this guy was miserable, and had the courage to move to another country, and find a new life. If he is smart and prudent, he can enjoy the rest of his days here, without being bogged down in the US, where a high percentage of the population are joyless, bitter, disenchanted, saving every penny to survive the month, and frustrated as hell. Not to mention the ongoing war on men, and an environment where this guy, at 72, would have nearly zero percent chance of ever getting any more TLC. So, what is wrong with his move? I think he was smart, and I applaud him.

Hope it works out for him. It worked out for alot of us, who are thrilled to death, to have our home countries in the rear view!

He has taken a 3 week holiday. It always pays to know the story before commenting on it.

I know a few guys here in their late 70's who are very active. 4 or 5 times a week.

They are popping Viagra, but so what.

Do not see or actually meet many over 80 maybe they die off before that.

He arrived at 72 and they made him young again. I arrived at 27 and they made me grow up fast!

I arrived at the same age. I think many of the oldies are jealous that they had 30 more years in a factory or likewise at that age.

According to your posts, you have been working here from the UK for about 30 years as what, an English teacher??

Most of the younger guys I know here have no money.  Always trying some semi questionable ways to make it.

Yes, some of us paid dues at a great job, retired and came here in our 50's with a very nice bank account and pensions.

Would not want it any other way.
