Hello,

I apologize if my terminology is incorrect but here is the problem. My sister had a ME retirement visa and then she thought it was renewed / extended for another year (also mutli entry) but it was for single entry only. When she came back into BKK she had get a VOA. My questions are can she extended the VOA and for how long. Can she do another retirement visa. If she has to leave the country in 30 days, will she be allowed another VOA or will she be denied. Sorry if this has been covered before but I am finding different answers and want to make sure I have the correct information. Thank you.

I think she got a 30 day visa exempt entry not a 15 day visa on arrival that is only for those from 21 countries.

An explanation of what she actually had would help. Was it OA visa or a non-o visa from a embassy or consulate? Or a extension of stay based upon retirement?

She would have to apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration to apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa. She would to apply before she has 15 days remaining on her 30 day visa exempt entry or the 30 day extension of it.

Requirements for the non immigrant visa application are here. https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_80

She could do another 30 day visa exempt entry if it was needed.

Firstly it would help if we knew her nationality.

Secondly I think she got a 30 day Visa exempt entry when re-entering Thailand.

When she departed was she holding a Visa, which would have been obtained from a Thai Embassy/Consulate OR

Was it an extension based on retirement obtained from her local Immigration office.

It's difficult to be sure as the details/terminology being used are confused and confusing but it sounds a lot like another case of someone who came in on a one-year multiple entry visa based on retirement, got an extension of their permission to stay and thought it was an extension of their actual multiple entry visa (including its provision for unlimited entries) and went out without getting a re-entry permit.

Once again, this shows the importance of using the correct terminology - someone who thinks they have renewed a visa which gives them the right to re-enter the country (when what they have actually done is extend a permission to stay which does not) is misled into taking a course of action that seriously inconveniences them.

Hello,

She is an American and had for her first year an OA visa (retirement) and then the next year got an extension of stay. I have her passport and the stamp says Non-Re. When she left BKK she had an extension of stay. She does have thirty days before she needs to leave the country. Would the O visa allow her to enter/exit or does she need to get a re-entry permit. If she needed to do another 30 day visa exempt entry I am assuming she would need to leave the country. If she decided to apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) does the 800,000 need to be in the bank for a certain time or once the account shows the 800,000 she can apply for the visa.

I am trying to see what the easiest way would be for her to stay in BKK until the end of Aug but she would be allowed to exit/enter the country a few times during the next few months. If I am understanding the information, she can not extend visa exempt entry, she can only get another exempt entry. Thank you so much for your help and hopefully my terminology is better.

That indicates she entered using a re-entry permit if that is on her entry stamp. It means non immigrant re-entry.

Perhaps the only error was the number of days she was given.

When does her current extension of stay end?

Sounds a bit like the IO wasn't sure or had no idea about the OA being valid for another year and stamped 30 days to make his problem go somewhere else.

Maybe best bet is a visit to local Imm' or if possible and easy BKK Imm' office.

I had thought that the IO was mistaken but spoke to the agency that had done her extension. They told me that for the 2018-2019 year the extension of stay for a single entry not ME. I found the stamp that shows the non-re and the until date was smudged but was told by the agency that it was until Feb 20 this year. The extension of stay started from then but she did not get a re-entry permit before she left Thailand. Her mistake I know but I am trying to figure what would be the best way for her to stay for the next three months and have a multi entry. Sorry for the confusion, I am very new to Thailand's visa structure.

If she just wants to cover the next 3 months the easiest way is to not do anything and just get more visa exempts.

There is no official limit of visa exempts, each time she enters the country she gets 30 days, and if she wants to stay more than 30 days in the country, every visa exempt can be extended for 30 days once at the immigration office for 1900thb.

but how does the non O  visa and the retirement extentions look like? is it just a stamp or is it a sticker on the whole page?

From local Immigration they are stamps, but both requiring the best part of one page.
