I have been living in thailand for the past ten years on a retirement visa, on July 3 I am booked to fly to ireland where I will be residing for the foreseeable future. Only problem my retirement visa expires on 21 june. My plan is to visit cambodia and then return and get the auto 30 tourist visa when i enter thailand. Now comes the question;

If I return before my retirement visa expires will I still get the 30 day tourist visa, or do I have to wait until June 22 in order to get a 30 day visa

If you leave and reenter Thailand without a re-entry permit you will get a 30 day visa exempt stamp (not "tourist visa") and your one year extension (~"retirement visa") is void no matter how long it is valid.

So I don't see a problem with your plan (bridging the gap from June 21 to July 3). And I don't know an easier alternative(?).

Monday June 4 is the first day to get a stamp until July 3.

Best leave some days spare time.

I have a multiple re-entry permit, so if I return before it expires 21 then i will be allowed in on my retirement visa, but if i wait until 22 june then the re-entry and and the actual retirement visa will both be expired and i will just receive the basic 30 day allowance.....am i correct

What about just overstaying & paying? I don't know for sure how to count the days....

Unless one wild night in cambo is a goal...

REALLY great advice ....

Why follow the law (get a tourist visa), if you can break it (overstay) and risk being caught on the streets, put in IDC (immigration detention center), fined, blacklisted for 1 year and deported from the country with all the according stamps in your passport...

And even if the posting gentleman would make it to the airport and want to pay the fine, he still would get an overstay stamp in his passport which might impact his future travel (holiday or other) to ANY country which will question him why he broke the Thai immigration laws and how they can be assured, he will not break their laws also...

(sorry ubonjoe)

Not a good suggestion at all.

The fine is 500 baht a day. Which is 6000 baht for 12 days of overstay.

Aslo if caught with an overstay he would be arrested sent to detention, be deported and blacklist for a year.
