NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 4June 2018 (NNT) – A Sustainable Thai Idealism campaign is underway in the southern city of Nakhon Si Thammarat to improve the lives of local farmers.

Royal Irrigation Office 15 under the Ministry of the Interior launched an employment program on Saturday as part of the Sustainable Thai Idealism initiative, also known as Thai Niyom Yang Yuen, which strives to lift Thai people’s living standards especially those of the poor and low-income earners, who make up the majority of the population.

A total of 50 crop producers from several districts showed up on Saturday to apply for work in the employment program under which they will be paid for dredging and unclogging Tha Di Canal and Sao Thong Canal.

So far, in Nakhon Si Thammarat, three projects have been launched under the Sustainable Thai Idealism initiative including the employment program, the use of latex in road construction, and the strengthening of the city’s irrigation infrastructure. A total of 40 million baht has been allocated for the three operations scheduled to be finished no later than September this year.

I expect there will be a proper one week preparatory course where the farmers learn the PM's patriotic songs they have to sing while cleaning the canals and ditches.

There is a huge sleeping workforce here:  Thai Prisons Bursting At Seams. Ever heard of chain gangs?

Unfortunately the 2018 elections are missing from the Sustainable Thai Idealism - apparently the junta isn't ready for that kind of idealism.

Looking at the photo it seems there will be far more women than men working on these canal clean-outs. Nothing surprising there. Someone has to stay at home and keep the flies off the pigs.
