When your baht bus driver is crazy, do not cross him

I want to add that although I don't think drivers like the madman one described in this incident should be allowed to work as commercial drivers I don't lack sympathy or gratitude for those doing the job in general. It seems to be soul crushing work even if decently paid and the service most of them provide to the riding public has great social value.

Maybe there should be an annual baht bus driver parade?

It is a daily parade and you probably don't ever have to wait more than 10 minutes...

It took me many years here to learn how to smile authentically and speak softly the Thai way when involved in a confrontation or upset with a situation with a Thai male...even whilst inside a volcano is erupting and I’m acting out a scenario where I’m  murdering the said individual.   But here it does keep you safe.

Don’t try the same technique in the U.K. though. I found out to my detriment Christmas just passed.  Long story short...”what you smiling at mate ..you think it’s funny yeh!!?” ............??

in pattaya i recall a bizarre baht bus driver.  i paid him with 20 baht and correctly politely said one person since they can try to not give change.

i spoke in thai and he got angry told me in english he doesnt like and told me dont speak thai. next i said goodnight in thai. he stopped, backed up a little, gave me the finger and the f word.

i left it at that just shaking my head.

Ever thought of owning a bicycle JT?......saves you getting on the wrong side of these dastardly songtaew drivers that continually seem to irritate your goodself :whistling:

I could not think of anything more dangerous than getting on a bicycle here. At least with a scooter, you can accelerate out of the way of whatever nutjob is trying to kill you.

If I had enough money, I'd seriously consider buying an APC.

I was sitting in a Baht bus ready to leave the terminus full, when the driver pointed to me and told me to give my seat up for a ten year old schoolkid. I refused and just said "no" with being rude, then another adult Thai gave him his.

I know I was maybe taking a chance in refusing to give up my seat, but no one ever tells me what to do.

Considering that you deliberately tried to antagonise a bus driver , you decided to seek revenge on his (in your opinion) bad driving , although so-called bad driving is the norm here .

If you felt the need to comment on his driving, you should have spoken to him , you acted rather immaturely , by walking slowly and deliberately giving him small change  .

You deliberately tried to provoke him , you need to grow up a bit and maybe its you who should be banned from riding baht buses

yes these guys can make you angry when  driving like nuts.

but he was crazy mad, probably road raging against another driver.

did your mommy not tell you?

Dont go poking bears or stirring up the hornets nest!!!!

I don't think his erratic driving was about other drivers at all. I think it was about expressing his almost murderous hostility to the people he was carrying. Scum like that should not be driving passengers. But you know he's out there doing the same, every day and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

No, my Mommy was a chain smoker that liked to read pornographic literary novels. No folksy wisdom about animals offered. She didn't even bother teaching me to tie my shoes properly. Easier to just buy loafers. Yeah, I know, TMI.

I realize my idea of a baht bus drivers parade sound flippant, but I actually think it's a cool idea. Baht buses in Pattaya, even though songthaews are common all over Thailand, are rather an iconic TOURIST ATTRACTION here in our "great" beach resort city. In San Francisco, cable car drivers are celebrated. Why not an official celebration of these "lovable" colorful characters? Like I said before, the majority are OK. Maybe some public positive reinforcement of appreciation would cause more of them to behave honorably in their daily driving? Yeah, probably not, but I still like the idea. Another parade is always good for tourism.

It is Pattaya no need to do anything simply leave this particular baht bus and get the next one. Same might be said for getting on one that is going the wrong way.

No need to get upset/indignant or to post garbage about it one here?

Well, under the rule of 3 wrongs don't make a right or right a wrong or whatever... at least you are kind enough to warn others not to make a big deal over a small inconvenience...

...

Yeah, that was the reason behind posting this story here.

I'm not sure though I would call his driving behavior as that small though. Forcing people to radically shift in their seats, again and again, clearly deliberately, clearly out of hostility, strongly suggesting the man is either criminally insane, on DRUGS, or BOTH to me is just a tad bigger than small.

If you aren't interested in the topic, don't read it or post on it.

Clearly plenty of people ARE interested in the topic.
"Garbage" is in the eye of the beholder.

No doubt. I wouldn't recommend myself as a bus driver either. But he took the job and he has the public under his care and he clearly doesn't care.

Maybe they tightened his brake cable up a bit too much ?

Thanks for being predictable.

I have never suggested that anyone risk conflict with violently insane Thais.

Even macho macho men possibly like you are that are so brave insulting people behind your keyboard shouldn't because you might be dealing with a mob.

As I said I temporary lapsed from my usual just accept the crap here policy which I also preach and the post is merely to remind others to think twice before they find themselves doing similar.

Cheers Rocky.

Not going to go there with such broad generalizations, but in Thailand, and everywhere, there are LEVELS.

Like if an overcooked cook served you a plate of vomit because he hated his customers.

sorry to hear that but not to worry, my mamma never tought me what TMI means anways.

I see road rage quite often with the van guys in Bkk.

as far as baht bus: they have near me is only 7 or 9 baht so they dont mind small change but van driver look at you funny if you give em a handfull of coins.

its not good form..so my last gf tell me.

but really I couldnt imagine the 3 things you did bothering a baht bus driver to much here in Bkk

they probably just laugh and say "farang bah"

no offence but i think Pattaya probably have a high % of nutters, both foriener and thai

yes, i was surprised when a TV member wrote some nasty comment to me and you ( and only you) clicked on like.   i don't know you but wondered what you were thinking.  Now that i know that sometimes you have a temporary lapse of common sense....all is forgiven.

I think if i lived in the Pattaya area I would be in a sour mood quite often.  The workers and attitude there

were more than i could handle .  Not enough testosterone (me) i guess.

I admitted I made an error in my OP. Lecturing to me that I made an error when I've already acknowledged that is simply trollish baiting. I would understand that if I defended what I did. I did not.

You just don't like being told do you?

How many incidents have you had so far with baht buses?

You already admit to a prior occasion where you were threatened with violence..

Why do you think that may be?

I have an idea.

You should learn when to shut up and behave. If you can't, the eventual beat-down is coming and hopefully you'll post about it here.
