A good idea would have been to see how she paid back for the car before lending her more, guess it was not on a strict monthly basis, so you were slack and she took you up on the slack and took you for everything she could get and she is your family! Poor you, doubt you will ever see a single Baht back from her. Would she have done it to a Thai? Doubt it, there again who cares.......

Sorry. Not to be unsympathetic, but this is a very common scenario - as you probably now know.

 

But be of good cheer. 3 tonnes of manure dumped in the driveway is often a good signal that you're not impressed.

Baerboxer is right. To a Thai, a loan is a loan until they get the money and then it's a gift.

 

But don't be resentful, many of them are just the same with loan companies. They don't pay them back either.

 

 

Just be prepared to write off this SGD$750,000 because the army general will deny everything even though he did not run away.

Gold or love,the two best money makers in the world of fraud.after. Couple of chats with this guy and he sends him $750,000.i put it down to greed and him being a plain fool.

You would need brain surgery to do business with a army man at that level of corporation investment. What schooling do these paid rank people have. Answer is pretty much nothing. Your always going to be robbed. Find a genuine broker. Even that's risky in scam land

i am not that naive, and my ex- girlfriend was not so dishonest.

the case here is different. i was in long term relationships with her, and

tried to prove to her again and again that money is not a problem.

but - i tried to explain to her  - i can't just give her money like that.

that's because i am not an ATM. and even if i was an ATM , than she

has to come to see me sometimes face to face.

but she was too lazy even for that.

there is only one saying i can think about to explain her thinking: 

STOLEN WATER ARE SWEATER.

 

she did'nt want just to get money from me - she wanted to cheat it from me,

cause stealing is much more fun !!!

Hrmmm. I'm sure you can easily see how it doesn't appear that way. The Thai uses cheating ion order to demonstrate superiority - it's one of the many psychological quirks they have. If they manage to cheat you, it shows they are smarter or stronger (or whatever their need is) than you.

 

You are far from being the first and you are far from being the last to fall victim to this, and by and large, the harder you are to fool, the harder they will try because the pay-off is greater if they prevail. When I came to Thailand, this never even occurred to me, I was pretty naive. What the Thai has done is to persuade me that I should not give an inch and I should convince them that so far from providing a pay-off, swindling me is a recipe for the collapse of their lives and everything they hold dear. Many don't believe and press on in their habitual course, they get what they deserve generally, but some at least are given sufficient pause to change direction.

 

The Thai has a number of these doorways which can be opened, because underneath it all, while they may be cunning as a sh|thouse rat, they are not very smart and they are extremely suggestible. Find a doorway and they will learn to have more respect than to try.

Sorry, but anyone who wants to invest that kind of money and is listening to a Thai general...is either stupid or greedy. In either case, he has got what he deserved. Why did he think he was special and that it wouldn't happen to him...not as if there aren't enough cautionary tales around. The old adage "Don't spend anything here that you can't afford to throw up into the air and walk away from..." still holds true as there are no laws that can be relied on due to the corrupt/influential and rich being able to do as they want.  Thailand is a plutocracy.....away has been, is now...and will be for a long time.

I think all this thing is about culture. A woman in Thailand most of time expect man help when you are her man. Just give her what you can... Don't listen to people advice here. They are so negative.
