PM says EEC will change the face of Thailand

The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) development project will change the face of Thailand, will generate an annual revenue of about 70 billion baht in exports, will create tens of thousands of jobs in different fields and will utilize more than 50 billion baht worth of local raw materials annually, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha Friday night.

In his weekly nationwide address, the prime minister said that all Thais would have the opportunities to reap the fruits of the project.  But, in order to ensure the utmost benefits, he stressed that it is necessary that they must adapt or develop themselves accordingly and must take part in the project.

He said that the raw materials to be used in the EEC project would come from domestic sources and the jobs to be created by the project would be filled up by domestic labour source.

PM says EEC will change the face of Thailand

Translation: PM says "Vote for me, I'm lovely".

Da.mn, he loves to hear himself talk, doesn’t he?

He doesn't need to sell it to locals. He needs to sell it to investors.

Or is there another reason for proclaiming self greatness.....8 months before an alleged election?

Reality is, look what happened with Muthair in Malaysia......

Disaster is around the corner.

With a bit of luck and a following wind...

What he is saying is quite true with one proviso; that being that if it actually happens. He is not lampooned as Pinocchio for no reason.

If his track record of achievement so far is anything to go by this will also be a fizzer.

He'll be off globetrotting soon, presumably with an entourage of lackeys and shoes polishers, to drum up investors in this great EEC plan of his. I wish him luck.

The six major projects involved (HS rail, deep seaport, U-tapao airport, MRO Centre and digital park)   will collectively be substantial energy consumers. As I mentioned in another story, he will find it difficult to attract investors if there is not sufficient reliable energy sources available. That does not mean wind and sun or unreliable Laos power; it means coal-fired power. It's coming, believe it!

Without it there will be no EEC Corridor.

Wouldn’t this be nice if the projects are discussed in parliament. We keep hearing about the projects but little on detail nor any robust debates on its viability. The people certainly has no say in this project.

This is a military government. Discussions on such important issues are not held in parliament. They are held in the Officer's Mess.

Even though the PM states otherwise,I really hope the labour force is all Thai, not cheap imports from neighbouring countries.

Are you referring to the NLA aka Officer’s Mess. ?

No say, but they must take part in it? Whatever that means..

Ah, I remember my first beer.

Does this mean that to the unskilled Thai workforce that they are on their own to adapt or develop? Versus a wave of foreign skilled workers brought in for foreign investors to take these jobs initially as Thailand lacks sufficient skilled workforce (30,000-50,000) to supplant them.

Decades of a defunct and archaic education system (check Thailand universities' world standings) is not going to instantly grant Thai unskilled workers sufficient ability to immediately or in the short term to meet the needs of the EEC. Maybe in 10 years?

Fully agree for what my opinion is worth. Prayuth isn't really concerned with Thailand, he's concerned with preserving the hegemony of those, who, one way or another, rule Thailand (for their own benefit).

All this guff about the EEC is designed to put money in the fat Thai cat's pockets, and if that means foreign labour, well, the army is well used to exploiting foreign labour, so that's all good.

But he has to get elected so he has to fool the proles that all this is for their benefit. It isn't. The army (imho) did not launch a coup to get rid of a corrupt government, they had been waiting for the amnesty attempt to use as a suitable excuse. Neither was the succession a factor , as suggested widely, the succession was never in doubt. The army was told that the price of getting their snouts in the trough (again), was to roll back the CM.

This much is clear to me now, but it wasn't clear to anyone prior to the event. In this respect, I'm taking my own advice, oft-quoted - don't listen to what they say, look at what they do.

If all this house of cards falls down, then Thailand will have been very lucky to avoid a truly disastrous sequence of events. Personally, I doubt that a nation of under-intelligent people can avoid what may well be coming.

In the days of yore, CA 1999, this was called "vote-buying".

Roaming the country, showering the people with cash, lining up "influential people", forming coalitions, and he says he's not a politician.

There's no way he'll allow an election unless he is assured of victory.

He already has changed the face of Bangkok into something non Thai.   He is just a power, money worshiping, cowardly, buffoon hoping to avoid debate by flashing shiny trinkets.

I would rather like to see a new face as PM.

This will change Thailand .

But these ruling Grand fathers have no ideas but filling their pockets

He means by selling all the best durian-fruits-agricultural products to China while Thailand is left with overly inflated prices of inferior quality. Selling your country's soul to the Chinese devil is not a good idea.

Increasing wages too much is also counter productive to export.
