THE Shinawatra siblings, Thaksin and Yingluck, yesterday publicised their trip to the United States, where they said they had met some of their “politicians and businessmen” friends.

“I had opportunities to meet with my old friends [whom I have known] since I was student, a businessman and then a politician,” Thaksin wrote in his Instagram account, @thaksinlive, under a set of photos of him and his sister Yingluck.

The siblings visited Washington DC, New York City and Kentucky state, where they studied for their masters degrees at different times.

Thaksin added: “Visiting places where I once spent my life gives me indescribable happiness.”

While it is not the first time that the two fugitive ex-PMs have publicised their appearances together since Yingluck fled Thailand last year, this is the first time Thaksin has posted photos with his sister to his social media account. The 68-year-old former premier is normally active on Facebook but only posts to Twitter and Instagram on special occasions. He also rarely posts about his private life.

However, the Shinawatras’ lives can still be seen in the social media accounts of Thaksin’s three children – Panthogntae, Paetongtarn and Pintongta – who have often posted photos of their father and aunt enjoying their life abroad.

“Father sent us a photo of himself in a KFC restaurant in Kentucky, where he used to work part-time when he was a student there,” Pintongta wrote in her Instagram account @aimpintongta.

Both Thaksin and Yingluck went into exile to avoid jail terms following court convictions. Thaksin, who faces six arrest warrants, left Thailand in 2008 after his short return to Thailand following the victory of the Phalang Prachachon Party, the reincarnation of the Thaksin-founded Thai Rak Thai Party.

Yingluck made a dramatic escape last year, just a few days before she was due to hear the court’s ruling on a case stemming from her rice-pledging scheme. She was eventually handed a five-year jail sentence in absentia.

Yingluck was not seen for months until she was spotted in London last year while shopping, and later in Shanghai and Tokyo. Despite her appearances, Yingluck has yet to make any remarks in public. Yingluck was recently granted a 10-year visa by the UK, according to a BBC Thai report that cited her close aides.

I wonder how many times a day that Prayut and his cohorts think about the Shinawatras? I wonder if they think of them before they go to sleep? I wonder if they dream of them? Or, perhaps better to say 'have nightmares' about them?

Can you imagine; after 'serving' as Prime Minister for four years, working long hours, the travel, etc, the simple fact is that you get wiped off the front pages by people you consider fugitives? And if there were any fairness in electoral politics, either one would cream you in an election?

I wonder how many ulcers Prayut and his cadre have because of these two?

It kills me just think about it...

I wonder if it will boost their sales in Thailand? If it does, Man-Child will never order KFC again... Dumbo probably still would on the sly.

And apparently it's going to p1ss down from the heavens for the 2 days. I expect the people in Phichit will get the brunt of it, no doubt the shins will get a mention during his 2 day tour, despicable pair....

At least he got his photo in the cockpit.

And what type of Visa, Passport are they traveling into the USA on?  Can't be diplomatic since that was all recalled revoked wasn't it?

It's about this time that the junta should really start watching the subtle nuances of the press releases from the US State Department if they actually have the sophistication to do so.  In those press releases, if 'junta' should ever change to 'regime', it's time to start worrying.

Maybe there is a visa which allows elected politicians deposed by military juntas to enter and visit the US. It would seem that rather a lot of countries are equally relaxed about these procedures - quite scandalous really...

There's a creepy sibling relationship with these two partners in crime......

If the Shins really want to wind Man-Child up good and proper, they ought to make sure they're photographed in London on the exact same day as Man-Child's up and coming visit with Theresa and Boris. It'd be a classic, and the poor little imbecile would have an absolute tantrum.

Perhaps a picture of them looking at the fossilized dinosaurs in the Natural History Museum?

Perfect. Maybe followed by a snap of them at Speakers Corner.

You've been on the Shin cool-aid again! They like to believe they'd be elected again too. Whereas the people may have had enough of Shin kleptocracies and watching to the two fugitive billionaire fraudsters living it up in their private jet and hiso lifestyle.

The new parties may do better than anyone thinks. Whether they'll be any different is another matter.

It's the "I'm Rich <deleted> The World Visa".

I doubt it. More like one that allows billionaire crooks friends of the Carlisle Group and their political muscle to fly in on their own plane. And no one cares how they got the money for all that, just as long as they got it!

Interesting that the US really punishes white collar crime and financial fraud hard - but turns a blind eye to one of Asia's biggest crooks.

You think if they came back, with no charges to face, that the masses wouldn't vote for them ??

Just because they have a jet wouldn't stop people voting for them.... Somchai from the rice paddy down the road isn't going to form a party, is he ?

I know there are such things, but seriously, what passport are they traveling under?  Thai or some other citizenship?

So not unlike the junta with their smug corruption and nepotism then? Whatever did happen with those watches? Few generals running round with billions in their pockets too. From someone who ran a Telco company the billions are easily explained. How does a general in the army end up with billions of assets though? ?

Having your own plane, being a connected billionaire with mates in the Carlisle group and politicians opens doors.

Usual hypocrisy. One law for the filthy rich and one law for the rest.

Everybody has to go through the Immigration booth. Hi-So Lo-So and No-So. Sickening.

It would all boil down to how quickly they could grease palms and how many more believed their promises of well greased palms when they got back in control of the trough.

But the Students, the new democracy protesters, and many former Shin voters who aren't under the easily influenced by red shirt areas, are no longer fooled by the Shin lies.

Some of their old allies are maybe also seeing the writing on the wall and seeking new alliances.

But Yingluck has no charges to face, she has a conviction and jail term. Thaksin also faces a jail term and then those outstanding cases. He won't face any of that so the only way back is through amnesty. Don't see that happening anytime soon. And all this "look at us, look how rich and carefree we are" BS has the chance to turn negative.
